    *** 1984 Honda 200es Speedometer Question - HELP ***

    Hello, all.

Your help needed - found a speedometer for my 1984 Big Red 200es, hooked up and works perfect. My question - what are the 4 wire connections for. Does the speedo face light up. Does this hook up into the headlight wiring harness. Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On 350x trikes Honda had extra wires in the head light housing area to plug the speedo ( or trip meter) into so if lights was on the speedo (or trip meter ) would light up.
If you don't have those on your trike you could still fab the speedo light into your stock wiring by piggy backing them together.

Thanks for the info - much appreciated. I was hoping there was factory connectors in the wire harness. I don't want to splice into the harness - want to leave it intact/original. I guess I will not bother to have the speedo face illuminated.

Thanks zoomerman, I never looked at the entire wiring harness but I will now. I just assumed the hook-up would be at the headlight end of the harness. Four wires coming out of the speedo. Two green and two light brown.

    Regards.

What I see on the speedo harness is one each male and one each female on both colors. I'm thinking the speedo harness needs to be connected at the brown wire coming off the main harness. Pull the bullet connector apart and stick the brown wires in to the appropriate connector on the main harness. The same thing for the green. Rather than plugging the speedo in to empty connectors, it looks like Honda intended on using the existing connectors and simply wire it in series. Anytime the light switch is on, there is power present on the brown wire regardless what position the hi/lo switch is in.
