I would pull the right side cover and inspect for damage. More than likely its clutch disk are just worn out and allowing the transmission to slip. The VESRAH clutch disk set is around 30 bucks and that is the kit I recommend.
There is no sub transmission on a 86 125m it is a completely different animal than the first generation. Slipping in Super low which is basically first gear for a 86 model and its only slipping in first gear leads me to believe its probably the clutch disks. I could be wrong however we won't really know anything until he pulls the side cover to inspect it.
Ok thanks. I'll get that side cover pulled soon and take a look in there. I'll try to post some pics of it soon. Thanks for the advice.

You picked that up for $200? Nice rare find man, and in excellent shape to boot! I'd be careful with the fenders, 86-87 125ms are very rare, and unique as far as parts go. I'd comment on the shifting issue, but everyone else has that covered. Good luck, and congrats on an excellent find!
