Im using Carlisle Turf Masters aswell John. I bought them in 2012 . I raced tt and mx with them and they work well for both.I bought them at a local tire shop that also sells and sevices lawnmowers and and other power equipment.Back in the 80s I used either Armstong Z treads or Goodyear soft tracs.Click image for larger version.

Nice tires John, bummer about the old ones.

The ones below are the style that Jimmy gave me at the San Diego race along with some Mitchell rims after he saw the stock Tecate ones on my bike . . I used them at every race after that so they were pretty useless by the time I quit but they seemed to be a decent overall tire . . I never had any other ones to compare them to though.

.................................................. Did you ever try this style?

    .................................

............... GOLDSPEED has a copy of them and are available with different compounds.

@atc300r - Yeah my first set of flat track tires was a pair of Goodyear Softtracs for my 185s, good tires but the compound was on the hard side for serious racing. The Turf Master looks like a direct copy of the Armstrong tire, Dean Sundahl used to run those a lot when he was winning everything in 1982.

@barnett468 - Only time i tried those extra wide Tri Tracs was on my Quadzilla 500 when we raced Speedway and you needed every bit of bite off the start and off the corners as you could get. My complaint about them was they are so wide they do not track well on a rough course and i also did not feel they pivoted around tight hairpin turns as well as normal Tri Tracs did. Hoosier still makes them.

They are the third ones from the top.

and now a public service message warning you to not do business with Myler's radiator repair

I told them DO NOT PAINT THEM and even called them and reminded them that i do not want them painted...so they painted them and got paint inside every opening and yet missed a bunch of spots on the outside.

They did not straighten a single fin.

I would call them and talk to the owner or manager, offer to send pictures by email, this is not the kind of work I have seen in the past or in the magazines.

I have seen radiators shaped into a taco and they came back perfect with zero bent fins, something slipped through the cracks.

    .
John, that isn't coolant....it's leather conditioner from the automatic dispenser.

And look at that mammoth air cleaner sticking a foot off of the side of the bike.

    Great photos.

John, Sorry About Mylers they worked some wonders for me with the cracked tabs on the tiger R3 rads. I also had the same problem with the rims. I ordered them off ebay. The ad didnt show the 8 holes in the pictures. I was going to have them refunded but I had to pay the shipping back....so they sit in a box!! Recreational Tires has the 130 bolt pattern but they are .125 thickness and 4+4.........actually I just looked at your pics..Looks like you have 4/110 hubs. My early franks has the 4/130. One one my Franks has the Franks custom hubs with the 3 hole 10 inch rim.....no replacing that one. Thankfully they just need a polish.

i believe this is a Golden State National at Hangtown, early 1982

On the far right you can see Stevie Wright on his 3B Lighting Yz250.I see three Team Honda riders with Mike Chester next to Stevie, the #43 bike of Curtis Sparks with Curtis standing just behind it (sweet DG head) and Dean Sundahl on #470 (sweet DG head #2). George is #102 on the far left (sweet DG head #3).

    Rotax update

coolant system is good to go with new hoses, radiator cap and other bits that had become crusty from sitting so long

trying to figure out a sensible route for the rear brake hose, easy to see why when rear disc brakes became common in 1986 pretty much every bike had the chain moved over to the left side of the bike for easier engineering

not sure i had mentioned it but when i was first working on the engine i could not get it to engage gears, i had no gear shift in till after i had taken the bike apart so i was kinda freaked out that the transmission had something fubar and getting parts for it was gonna likely prove a nightmare

well after getting the drive train together and the tires on so it could be rocked back and forth a bit and it clicked into gear and shifted perfectly...felt like Christmas had come early...so the engine refresh i want next year should be simple and strait forward as ill have all the parts for a fresh top end and clutch and just the Motoplat is in question still

pro tip for keeping your 3 wheeler in the house - use disguises
