200x kickstarter

my kick starter is not catching everytime i kick it. i just rebuilt the bottom end and the kick start gears that lock togeter looked good with very little wear , i even took them to a cycle shop to have a machanic look at them, he thought they looked fine. so i put them back in w.th a new spring and washer. now that i got the engine back together the gears don't seemed to be locking together. Is there anything else that could cause the problem? thanks for any help you can give me.

Did you pre-load the spring inside the inner cases (where the nut goes at the back of the motor on the bottom end)
