    kenda K284 front max puncture woes

    I wanted to ask if anyone on here "slimes" their kenda front max tire? It performs great but is only 2 ply and I had 3 punctures over the weekend on my buddies 200X. Does anyone here have issues with their front max going flat due to punctures? I know its a cheap tire but its tough to beat the performance of it. I was going to take some pieces of old mud flap, place them inside the circumference of the tire and tube it. The tube would hold the mud flap in place and the tire is almost bullet proof. Works with a wheelbarrow tire

    The drawbacks to slime have been posted here many times before.

    What the hell are you driving over/in to get three punctures in one weekend?

    I've bashed my way thru thick brush, downed trees and branches and anything else you could encounter in the woods and never punched a hole in my Front Max on my 200S

    Pieces of mud flap inside of an ATV tire sounds like a recipe for disaster. An ATV tire does not equal a wheel barrow tire when you consider how they are used.

    I would use tire plugs over any sort of "slime". I've never had any issues using tire plugs.
    The mud flap idea I'm sure works well for a wheel barrow, but I highly doubt it is close to being balanced at all. You won't ever feel the effects of the unbalanced tire on a wheel barrow but your trike going anything over 25 mph will certainly let you know if it's out of balance.

    Plugs are for emergency use. Patching is best.

    We have some sharp rocks and debris around my place as construction is being done. Removed three screws last time it popped

    Our property (where the majority of our riding happens) is plagued by Honey Locust trees. It is one BAD species of tree and extremely hard to control. Even harder to get rid of. It grows thorns up to 6" long and about as big around as a thumb! Way worse than mesquite in my opinion. They even grow thorns on their thorns! We had flats all the time even on our 60hp New Holland, then we ran across some awesome stuff.

    We have been using this http://multiseal.us/products/ (Heavy duty) in all of our ATVs, Jeeps, mowers and tractor for about three years now. What was once a daily occurrence is no longer a factor at all. Zero flats in anything we operate out here. It's not cheap, but will definitely cut down on your flats.

    you dont have anything to loose by trying that and it wont hurt anything, and in fact, you could even put slime inside the tube for tripple insurance.

    i have used slime on many car tires in emergencies, and it seems to work well in most cases.

    I completely agreed on your first post to the word. This I disagree with. I have been using tire plugs since I was a kid, and that was a couple decades ago. I use them in everything. My pickup has on board air and a plug kit in it at all times and many times, even once in Indiana, I just rip out the screw, ream the hell out of it, and jam the plug in. In the 20ish years I have been using tire plugs in all kinds of different applications, I have never ever had an issue with even one. Obviously they're not made for side walls, but they will certainly fix your side wall puncture or even a tear enough to get you where you need to go and then some in a pinch. I've seen yahoos run sidewall plugs for a lot longer than to just get them out of the woods, haha.

    With ya Fabs.. They plug big rig tires all the time for permanent puncture repair. It's safe, legal, quick, doesn't require dismounting or even deflation of remaining air, and is effective. As long as it's in the tread of the tire....plug away.

    I have used slime in some applications for slow leakers though with good results. Mainly lawn tractors and a couple of ATV tires..

    The only downfall I have experienced with slime is later down the line when you end up replacing the tire that has slime in it. A bit of a mess to clean up, but that's about it. Never used it on any wheelers built to go fast though. On one hand it seems as though it would self balance, but on the other hand you might not think it would.. I'm not really sure, so I have only used it on machines that are for slow goat trail riding. But in those cases it has done exactly what it supposed to do for me.
