Help with 250sx rear rim fitment

I am wanting to get some polished wheels for my 85 250sx but need some guidance on the rear rim selection. My main concern is clearing the rear brake drum. I have found some rims but not sure if they will work with offset and size.

Hello, I wish I could answer you question directly but I don't know much about the drum brakes and what will fit. I did however see this 250sx for sale with new aluminum wheels. Maybe the seller can answer your questions if you contact them? Good luck, I think it looks good and would be the way I would go if I had a 250sx.

What you need to know about the 85 SX rims is this. The hub on the right is part of the brake drum. The rims needed for the 85 are a deep bell on the back side so the rim clears the brake drum. By deep bell I mean the rim is straight on the inside unlike other rims that are stepped. If you put a stepped bell rim on an 85, the rim hits on the brake drum. In 86, Honda stood the wheel hub off of the brake drum a couple of inches moving the rim away from the brake drum eliminating the interference issue. The solution is to go with an 85 straight bell rim or move up to a 9" rim then you could use a stepped bell rim.

Great to hear he was helpful, I would be buying that 250sx if I had not just bought a mint 350x just 1 day befor it was listed. Looks cool with those wheels IMO.

I have a whole pile of 9" rims that will not fit the 85 250sx. You need to make sure they are not stepped bell rims. The only 9" aluminum rims I have that fit my 85 are ITP 9" 3+6. I cannot remember the exact model.

What about wheel spacers? Would they work? Good idea or bad? I'm thinking about doing the same to my sx and I already have the extra 8" rims.

With 1.5" wheel spacers ( ONLY USE THE BOLT ON TYPE! ) Almost every rim will fit an 85 sx.

Some nice trikes popping up for sale up North SSLS1!. I'm not as a big fan as everyone else seems to be with the front Bear Claw tire. Yeah those definitely look like 200x rear wheels on that 86'. Those don't look too bad but not really what I'm looking for on my setup. I want to try to keep things matching. That 85' is pretty spot on the what I was looking into. The seller gave me the exact info I'm needed. Funny how the word "rare" is loosely used nowadays.

Dude for the wheels if your looking for a stock look use the itp steel wheels. As for tires it's really depends on what kind of riding you do. For a good all purpose tire I would go with some dura knobies all the way around. If you need something a little more aggressive I would put bear claws on the back and a dura knobbie on the front.
