Hey guys just seeing if anybody has converted their yt175 from 6v to 12v and how they did it. I was thinking about maybe putting in a ytm200 coil in if it fits with a regulator/rectifier. The reason I want to switch is so I can run led headlights.

I have not done this on a Tri Moto. I have no Tri Moto experience.
Looking at the service manual, ignition and lights are 2 separate systems like most dirt bikes & ATVs of the era.
I'd install a 2 wire "Dirt bike regulator" and plug the LED light in. I bet it works. This is what I did on my Tecate and my TRX70.
The lighting systems on these things are AC not DC. I don't know why OEM use 6V lights. You can run a 12V light with no problem - especially if you install the 2 wire regulator.
Some say the LEDs will live a shorter life powered by AC. I don't know about that, either.
Try This
it is for the MX DT175 but it should be the same engine
i will be doing this to mine soon enough

They are an AC system. Yamaha set it up to use the resistance of the light bulbs to balance it all out. IF one pops, the other may pop. I haven't tested a 12v light, my only guess is that it's not as bright.
I did convert my YT175 to a 12 volt charging system. I used a diode bridge to convert it to full wave DC and then dumped the current into a small lead acid battery.
I just wanna go fast. If your not first, your last!!
