America's youngest custom bike builder. zinger

Please let me know what you think about this! She is Only 7 years old! She came up with the idea and did the work 100% by herself. I just coached her through it and had to give her some painting lessons before she actually painted the bike. I don't recommend painting your plastics but this bike was already painted red by the previous owner and it has really held up good so painting them over with a new color was actually a good idea. It started off she wanted pink plastics . I couldn't find any plastics in any condition let alone new pink ones. Then I mentioned putting the same decals that her sister has on her zinger. Then she said "what if it had fire on it instead" so I said "you mean like flames?" She's like yeah flames, like its on fire. Then she started brainstorming with ideas! Being a father on the verge of crying by the thought of my young child wanting to customize her own trike herself, I was fully on board. It was so cool being like " now take those 4 screws off of the carb" and hearing " ok daddy". Now it's all done except for a number plate decal and she wants to put a pink seat cover on it. So here she is- Americas youngest custom bike builder on her very 1st project. "The Genesis"
she wants to do her Polaris 90cc quad next and I actually CAN Click image for larger version.

Love it! Life long memories being made right there. It's great to see kids doing something outside with their hands instead of just video games and staring at a computer screen.

Hey Racer-X you painted the rear fenders, what kind of paint did you use? Was there a certain process you did to make it look that good?

That I couldn't tell you because someone had already used a primer, base coat, and paint already to repaint it red. We just scuffed up the existing paint job a little bit, painted it, and clear coated over the paint "and" the decals so they're not prone to tearing up at the edges. But if you wanted to do the same thing I would recommend an "adhesion promoter" before you paint. Its in a spray can. It's specifically designed for painting plastics. Because if the base coat cracks so does the paint. The adhesion promoter will make the paint job more flexable. I've used it on scraped up street bike plastics and it worked great. If it's on a bike that's going to get dropped and scratched up a lot you're going to have to occasionally scuff and re-clear coat it to keep it looking perfect but it shouldn't crack and flake off at all.
