My point is, if you want to do everything right and eliminate all the variables, then do that. Your welds looked rough. I didn't see any cold lap or undercut, but I saw holes and I don't know if the metal is fused or if the weld is just sitting on top of the base metal.
Right or wrong I do everything myself. I bought a welding machine 3 months ago and I'm guessing the weld you referring to was the first one of my life. But as I have posted on many occasions I never claim to be anything other than a hobbyist, with a knack for 3 wheelers. Not a welder, mechanic, machinist, or porn star.
So I'll make a deal with you, you send me your motor so I can build it for you. And I will send you my next chassis and you can perform the planned welds. Deal?

You don't have to hire someone else to do it. It's not hard to put down a good weld. Since you have everything in a shop and can put it on a table in any position that makes it even easier. Not insulting you, just saying it would be easier to fix right now. Since it's not in riding condition you won't even have down time.
So, Jason you are saying for a fact you are NOT a porn star correct?
Interesting that the swingarm piece that was cut out and replaced with the CR cases was never used on every 200X/CR125 build I have seen, I do like the fact that you added the brace and I hear your welds are getting better.
I have a buddy that does not have the greatest looking welds and we have been know to goof on him, but every time we test his welds the metal always fails around the weld.

As always- Everything I post is IMHO.
Trust me, I don't plan on hiring a welder, ever. I do appreciate your concern and if I felt that rewelding the pipe between swinger was necessary, than I would surely address it. But the truth is, that part is done. I spent a few days regrinding and rewelding that area and trust me, that pipe is going nowhere. If I would need a longer swinger in the future than I may look into moving the brace to an area better suited for those structural changes.

Your doing the best you can. That's how you learn. Just don't do any critical welding until your proficient.
This is my Lincoln SP175plus and it didn't take long to learn. You have to set the amperage so it penetrates but not too hot, then finely adjust that wire speed.
IDK what welder your using, avoid flux core like it's the Ebola virus if possible. But there is a buzzing/crackling noise that a mig makes when your spot on. If it skips or isn't that smooth sound, it's set off a bit. With a gas shield, I rest it on the piece at an angle to keep my height consistent.
I found that noise by accidentbut you'll get there. I've had a TIG for 2 years, still can't get it down perfect so I won't use it on structure.
If anyone pisses you off, put them on you ignore list. Iron Chop taught me thatIt's just healthy for the mind and good for the board....

The elusive noise DC speaks of is that of sizzling bacon on a Saturday morning....
PS. DC, remove a little more paint before you weld, your lungs will love you for it.
So you mean it shouldn't sound like a semi-auto BB gun shooting beer cans?Crap!!! I remove paint from the entire frame and my welds don't look anything like that.
When I was done welding this frame, I took a break for a week to work I a launch platform for my daughter. I impressed myself. All of the beads were nice. Good overlay and penetration. I guess sometimes your hot and sometimes your not. I feel like I'm getting better though. The first time I operated an excavator, I almost caused all of my hands to quit because they were so scared. Now, they will hop in the bucket and ride if I asked them. Everything that I do, I read up on first and train accordingly. It just suits me.

I let my buddy run the mini x at his house one day, he says, "that looks fun. Let me in there!" he's a talented guy, a mechanical engineer, but can not run the excavator! His first try he gave up in about 5 min!
Back on topic, the bacon sizzle comparison is a good sound comparison.
I bought a backhoe to build the MX track. I damn near flipped it over when a rear tire got in a hole. Now, I can leave the throttle on in gear and swing the boom or move the bucket and stick while moving forwards or back. It just took time.....
I started on a Lincoln jukebox. Try welding thin material with that!! I wanted a mig soooooo bad but I was broke back then. I use that welder for the backhoe welds!
