ATC200E Randomly stops sparking, Need HELP!!!

Ok so here's the story, I have a ATC200E thats been running perfect for the last 4 years that Ive owned it. Randomly wouldn't start, check for spark, no spark. So after trying for a few hours to figure this out, randomly I have spark, start up go for a couple rides. Following week, no more spark, again start trying to figure it out, hour later I have spark and starter up and again go for a couple rides. Then today get ready for a ride, no spark and can't get it figured out. All wires look to be in good condition and well pluged.

Also my wiring harness is strip down to the very minimum, no volt regulator, no fuses, no solenoid, no battery. I had done this from the start.
So really I only have the stator, CDI box and coil in my harness.

Anyone have any idea what my problem could be? This is getting very annoying!!

    Thanks in advance!

Intermentent electrical....fun, have you tried pecking on cdi when no spark? Followed by trying a cdi thump when no spark? So it runs good above and below half throttle, maybe bypass the killswitch when it does it.

When it's not getting spark tap on the cdi with a handle and see if you get spark after you tap on it. Does it ever fail while running, shut off?

I've heard of the drop test on cdi's. Kind of a last ditch attempt to get them working. Intermittent spark would point to a cdi issue I'm thinking.

The first time it happened, it was idling, cold start and about 30 seconds after it died and the second time was right after I unloaded it from my truck. Ill try giving it a few taps! Thanks for the advice.

I bet it's the sparkplug wire and boot. had this just happen on my son's ATC 70. $25 for a whole new coil with wire. coil sucked but whire and boot were good. so reused stock coil and runs like a top!!!

It;s not a plug wire or coil. It's what has been stated...a cdi unit.

martin... unless you want to rely on that thumping technique just step up and get a new cdi. search out the myth buster thread.

ahhh oh so we know for sure it is the CDI then. sounds like a wire broke inside.

200E should be the square plug CDI anyway I think, so no need to rewire.
I see you're in NB, I've got square plug CDI in Fredericton if you're still looking.
