I have read a few articles on putting a wr/yz engine in the yfz frame, but not the reverse. But if you already have the yfz engine I think it would be a great build to put into a wr frame. There would even be some advantages to it.
The quad engine is geared a little lower in the higher gears, and the quad engine is built a little heavier in the bottom end. The main difference in the size of the engine that I can see ( I have both a yfz quad and a wr trike) is the width of the engine cases to make room for the beefed up tranny, it looks to be 3/4" or so wider.

If you put the quad engine in you have to put an oil tank somewh where, something to think about
Looking for a Bassani silencer for a 2nd gen tecate, the style with the movable mount. 1st gen will work

Yes, the oil tank, that has been mentioned to me before. I know some bikes use the frame down tube as an oil reservoir, but that would take some work to pull off. I'm thinking I'd probably have to install one just behind the heel guards forward of the axle.

The extra width is the bit that worries me, would I be able to line up sprockets?

Back from my annual Thanksgiving trip, spotted Kasey's latest creation taking it's first shake down ride. New owner seem'd pretty happy and it drew a lot of appreciative crowd on lookers. Kasey does great work and oh it looked right at home in the desert.

The more I look at these conversion the more I want. I like how this one uses a ytz front fender, keeps the yami theme going.

What's people thoughts on the fold up foot pegs, verse fixed? Kasey's last build looks like it's retained the stock footpegs. I was planning on making a fixed bracket and using the yfz footpegs per previous builds. I think the wider atv style pegs are mandatory on a trike, or quad, but Is there any disadvantages to going to a fixed foot peg?

I know on my 87 T3, the footpegs used to fold back unexpectedly some times when I was leaning off the bike, so I always had to adjust my riding style to prevent that from happening. But in contrast to this my feet were once saved by the ability of the foot pegs to move back when I bottomed out at the base of a dune once. So I'm a little torn on which way to go.

i took 2 sets of pegs and made the ones on joes trike, i didnt have time to mess with building a whole new setup for the aluminum framed trikes these do fold back,, if he doesnt like them i will upgrade,, i have been working with wicked metal designs on stailless pegs so i can leave them raw to match the aluminum frame,,,,, they will appear on the 450 i am building right now,,,,,, they will not fold back ,,,

Hey Richard, whats the deal with the big foot pegs. Is it a comfort thing or are you finding that they are needed for control ?. I have a set of yfz pegs, but for now I was planning on staying with the WR set up unless they are needed. I really don't even notice the difference when I ride it, but then again I haven't got much seat time on this thing yet.

Have you done anything with the forks to soften them up ?. Mine seem a bit "harsh". I need to replace the seals and at that time I will go with the lightest oil I can find. I just wanted to know if you have done anything with the innerds.

probably be ok with stock pegs,, i just like the wider longer atv style of peg with a kick up omn it ,,, my forks have compression and rebound dampening adjusters i like the way they feel so i have not changed anything on them,,,

Hey bob, not sure if you mean your new to three wheeling, or just your new ride. I would consider wider pegs almost mandatory for a trike, or quad. Two wheeler pegs just don't provide the platform to really move around and hang off the trike to get get the best out of it.

But like all things, if it's working for you as it is. Then it's all good, each of us have our own preferences.

No, not new to 3 wheelers, just new to my 450 trike. I have the big pegs ready to go, just haven't put them on. Seems like every one is going to the big pegs and was just curious why. Still have a lot of little things to finish on the 450, I'll save the pegs for last.

In my opinion, bigger pegs are the single best mod you can do to a trike. They make it much safer and easier to ride

Like it's been said before you make the conversion look to easy lol. Anyway I'm not sure it was said farther back in this thread but how seat/bar height compared to a R or X ? I still want to do one of these but with a Honda but you make the yamaha's look good!
