1981 110ATC low and high range selector stuck

Well the topic says it all. Just got this 110atc and am waiting for some engine parts. So in the mean time I'm going over everything and found that the high/low shifter is frozen. The trans seems to work fine thru all gears. Anybody encounter this problem and where do I start. The manual recommends shifting this unit while engine is off.

I would get the motor running first and after its hot try and move the selector . The Two dissimilar metals will expand differently when hot so it will be easier to break it loose .
Other option is to remove the h/l cover and heat the cover with a torch to break it loose . This method will require the seal to be replaced .

Boy...I hate old phillips head screws. But I managed to break them free and removed the cover. Had to remove the clip on shifter mech. and pounded it out. Polished the shaft and cleaned up the race and reinstalled it. Works perfect now. (all with the engine stopped)
