I used sunset red I believe it was from rustoleum on a 70 tank and it held up just fine. Just let it dry for several days before putting gas in it. I also had the local auto parts store mix Honda Passion Red and put it in a spray can, it is the same paint that is on a car, not cheapo stuff. I paid $15 for a can from the parts store and then a can of clear for the top coat, came out nice and very durable.

spray can paint is lower quality than the factory paint, plus most factories used catalyzed paint or lacquer which is many times more durable than spray can paint.

Right. U need a good clear like say spray max 2 part which is resistant to oil and gas..

Just use a plastic tank or have it powder coated. It will be nicer. I know what I'm talk about lol.

Why would you just not spend $100 and do it right, never have rust again, never have dents again, never have hurt knees again, never have crap from your tank get into your carb and motor and never have to paint it again.

did I say "never" have to do anything but put gas in the tank?

If only those 185/200 plastic tanks werent shaped so hideously.-IMO-it would be great.
My buddy has one for his 250ES thats the same shape as OEM- those were made nice.

I swear some people have nothing better to do than stalk this page and think they know everything then when you show them they r wrong no comment. Well anyway if you paint the tank the way you should and use good primer and paint take your time I've painted many thanks and look great and last .I also agree those plastic tanks just don't look good. Some people don't have the money to buy 200 dollar plastic tank when for 60 you can put a little work in and make it much nicer.

I painted this 70 tank and forks with Summit Racing's single stage red poly.

Not an exact match - but can you tell? I could not without another stocker right next to it.

I used the same paint on my 350X frame. I'm impressed with it's shine and durability.

Ummm...because those plastic tanks take away from the authentic look of a vintage Honda 3 wheeler?
