    Remote car starters

I'm in the market for a fancy setup for the wife's car. 2004 Camry automatic with remote door lock/unlock and trunk open. I'm pretty handy with a wrench but electronics are magic to me.
    What's a good brand?
    How invasive/difficult is it?
What should I expect to pay for it?

Im not sure on brands. But A shop near me has been advertising them for $159 installed base model. My sister inlaw had one put on her boyfriends vehicle last year and she spent $450 plus.

I've had several put in over the years. I think the install is only like $40 of $50 bucks. It used to be about $200 installed, but now its down to about $150-$160. The units are I use are about $100 plus tax. It seems like a no brainer to just pay to have it installed. I'm a do-it-yourselfer, but theres a lot of risk. Even a small mistake and your car will continually pop codes and you won't be able to get it inspected. It seems like something that you just have someone do. On a side note, I remember reading an article on how the larger dealers will take the key fobs off of trade ins with remote starts installed. Then, after sale, they'll offer to install remote start for like $250. Then, just program a new fob. Slimy, if its true. Anyhooo, just nut up and pay the 19 year old to do it. Sorry for long windedness. too much coffee.

Never did an install, but my Aunt had a Blazer .It would intermittently not start and they would have to wait out the Pass key2 for anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours in hot parking lots. Middle of July...They were both disabled. Took it to their guy. He couldn't figure it out.He shipped it over to the GM dealer, they said for $800 they would start troubleshooting it. I said bring it down. It did not have a remote start, but prior to her buying it, I found out ,it had. I tore into the wheel and where they had tapped into the harness, was the worst wiring job I had ever seen. Not even in speaker wire had I ever seen such a mess. I fixed her all up while they grilled some meat....... Pay to have it done. With todays electronics, you want to have someone elses name on it when something goes wrong.
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

ALWAYS buying Museum quality machines,3 and 4 wheels. And any and ALL ,NOS parts,EVERY brand.

I am turning my PM's Off,my Email is billsracing@hotmail.com,put 3WW in the subject. Thanx!

Just my opinion, but I would never install a cheap aftermarket one. I had Toyota put a Toyota factory one on my truck last year. There is way too much to go wrong with them to even contemplate using an inferior chintzy Chinese one.

I put a cheap one in my wife's car, it sucked, ended up having another one put in. I am good with electronics (Former CT/X-Ray project manager/ Biotech specialist) and those cheap ones just have a bad design to make them inexpensive to produce. Some wont work well no mater how good you are with the install..

Never installed one, but I'd recommend you have a shop install one. Depending on the vehicle, some have to have a bypass wired in with the remote start to bypass the security system, and that's where it can get complex.
