Suzuki ALT 185 runs good when it feels like it?

Been riding the 185 for quite a bit, parked the alt 125 till the kids can ride it.
The trike has gotten sluggish, good idle, good low end, crappy mid and top just sucks...
It sat forever, the carb was rebuilt to new, new fuel pump and hoses, petcock, tank clean w good fuel filter, air filter, cam chain adj, valve adj. checked intake boot (looked ok) and new oil.
it used to run great just mid range had a hitch in it then it screamed on top end, was very fast!
it has not sat more than a week, gas is fresh premium non ethanol
ive tried jetting it up and down, pilot and main, different needles and clip positions all aound still with no success... am i missing something here?
ive gotten to the point i dont want to deal with it anymore it runs good enough to pull the kids in a yard cart anywhere but is real sluggish to go dune riding w my boyz on there rides..

    Dan,

    Do a compression check.

Not with your finger or thumb, with a compression gauge.

Make sure your gas and vacuum hoses aren't pinched under the front of the seat.

I'd look at your plug gap (make sure you have the right heat range too) and then for an air leak. Does it use reeds? If so there's another thing to check.

I would think compression would affect the bottom as well, but do check it as well as all lines as mentioned and make sure that vacuum hose and all connections are leak free.

Does it die out when revving it in neutral, or just under load?

It's a 4 stroke El . I think your stator coil is on the way out Dan, assuming you have cleaned your carb thoroughly/ omh it out, my moneys on ignition..

it doesnt die at all it just is very sluggish, every once in a while it will rev up as it should, almost like the choke is stuck, but it isnt, i replaced the cable just to make sure of that. plug is brown black
it doesnt smoke and has great compression on the pullstarter. all lines are good i triple checked. maybe its ignition problem...
