    first motor rebuild '83x

First off I have the motor out and have the head off. Rings were a bear to get off. I'm pretty sure the piston is still good. Some small scuffs removed with sand paper and scotchbrite. I take some pics for you guys. I may have some questions as I move along. Any help is appreciated.

I would check with your local motorcycle dealer and see who they use for boring cylinders. If I took the time to tear it down I would definitely have it bored and get a new piston and rings. Also would rebuild the head. Not sure what problems your engine had to begin with, but if you have a worn bore I would be sure to flush the case with diesel.

Will do. Here is what started the problem. Threw the chain through the case cover. Cracked stator cover repaired with jb weld. It sat awile, and with my muffler bent up rain water filled up inside cylinder. I put tranny fluid in to dissipate any left over water.Click image for larger version.

Looks like a culmination of the words ed, roach, and junk. I hope for your sake you didn't spend more than $150 on it. Good luck.

It's not as bad as it looks. I've had this bike since 2000. Most of the wear and tear from me and my buddies. We rode her hard and put her away wet. Still waiting for some parts and some extra cash to buy a new piston and rings. Oh well. You win some and you lose some.

Slow down mate; at least take the cylinder to a competent shop & have the bore measured properly. It looks like the cylinder needs to be bored. At the very least have the bore honed with something better than an egg beater hone. The bore may be OK but the piston might need to be replaced. Like a previous man said “Have it bored & a new piston”

Sorry for the confusion. I was talking about the bike, but yes probably a bore job and piston.
