    atc 250sx dash

I bought a 1985 atc 250sx that is in rough shape, but it runs great and doesn't smoke. I'm trying to piece the electrical system back together. The dash, ignition switch and most of the wiring between the plugs and dash were missing when I bought it. I bought a used dash with no ignition switch on ebay. I'm having trouble with trying to put an ignition switch in the dash. I tried bought a used 250es switch. I found out that it was the wrong one since it has a plastic nut that threads on from the top of the switch. I then bought one for a atc 200m since the switches themselves are pretty much the same. The hole for the switch is big enough that the switch just falls through. I tried to get a diameter of the inside of the hole using a digital caliper and came up with 1.266". I measured the ring on the top of the 200m switch that looks like it sits on top of the dash. I got 1.117". So my question is am I missing something that goes between the switch and the hole that acts like a bushing or is the hole in my dash too big? One other thing is that maybe my dash is ok and the 200m switch itself is different. I'm hoping that someone could measure their parts on a 250sx and let me know.

Unless someone gets it before I do, I will be able to measure it tonight.

The hole in the dash should be about 1 1/8 " You can get a new switch with 2 keys for a 250 es for 40 bucks . The plug end needs to be changed as the sx plug is different . Click image for larger version.

The dash looks the same. For some reason the hole for the switch must be too big. I was starting to be afraid of that.

can you post a picture of it ? I think the switch face is only about 1 1/4 or 3/8 . If it falls thru something is not matching up .

I'm thinking you have the wrong switch . I wouldn't even try the 200m ,,, maybe they are the same , but I would say no .

people list things wrong all the time , so maybe you think you bought a 250es switch and its really not .

I ordered another dash off of ebay for about $20. It's bare. Just the dash pad. No light covers, switch, or pads to cover the pins. I'm going to double check when this one comes in and let you know. It's supposed to be in on Saturday. I guess I'm still ahead of the game dollarwise. I've seen complete ones with everything going for $150 to $180.

Here's the final answer. The second dash I ordered came in today. The hole for the ignition switch is the same size in both dashes. The 200m switch is smaller and won't work. I'm going to just order a new one for a 250es and it will fit after the wiring modification.
