    BW200 parts request

I just picked up 2 '85 BW200's. One is a 5/10 runner that drives OK. The other is 2/10 and missing many parts: front fender, rear lens, air box, carb, rear muffler chain guard, etc. The header pipe and handlebars are very corroded.

ANy thought on the POS? Should I just part it out or is there a chance on resurrecting it? It's got the stock engine that cranks over, a tank,a great seat with OEM cover and all the other bits. It's mainly a rolling chassis with a disconnected motor.

Surprisingly, the air box wasn't that hard to find. I picked it along with a chain guard, front fender... and a free carb!
Now all I need is a front fender, rear lens and a muffler.

I have a chalky rear fender with broken tail light and a good CDI for an 85 kick only. I'm willing to let it go.

Wounder if why they started parting it out was cause the center cases are cracked? I would pull the clutch cover off to make sure it's not cracked before you go thru all the work then find out the engine is junk

^^^I agree! Good cases are hard to find! I went through that with a 85 I had. I couldn't find any cases and ended up parting it out. Good luck on it tho!

I may take you up on that CDI. I have a great rear fender, just no lens. I may have to fab one off something similar. Maybe go with a simple LED instead.
As far as the cases, they are in great shape and don't appear to have ever been open. But as with any bike that sits (damned lazy PO), you never really know. It seems wrong to part it out when so few were made and even fewer have survived.

Well, it's been at the shop now since last year (no spark) and my mechanic hasn't touched it. He also has my Kawi 650 quad apart and hasn't finished that either since July. *sigh* He is beyond expert in repairs, so I wait, but his health is shot and I doubt he'll be doing it much longer.
ANYWAY, I should be bringin it back home soon and will check the cases again, and begin the snipe hunt for the lack of spark. If this thing will run, I will probably make it a reliable runner and trade it for something with a thumb throttle.

UPDATE: Here it is, April 22nd and I still don't have either of them back home yet. Mechanic hasn't returned any calls (i try every day) and I'm probably going to have to have him served If I don't hear from him before May. Sucks, too, cuz he is a good friend but unreachable now.
If I get the 200 back, I will probably sell/trade it with a spare frame. I don't have the inclination to do a frame swap, as my time is better spent working the back 40.

FINALLY got that mech to give me back my stuff. Now I have a Kawi Prairie with the starter side case dismantled and a BW200 with no spark. And it being the height of the season, I can't find anyone with the time to help. But then again, no repairs means more $$$.
So I went out and bought 2 Fat Cats and a basket case. It's nice when the wife is away visiting family...

Anyone have some plastics they can spare for a budget BW build?

So I ditched the Kawi at a loss of $200. And the lack of spark on the BW was one wire that corroded. Sold that for $800 in poor/fair shape. Sold the two fat cats as a pair for $1250 (they were completely torn down). Another partial fat cat sold for $500.

Ffwd to 2018. Relocated for the job and paid off my house after selling my other one. Scanned search tempest and picked up 2 BW200 runners for $1200. Today I bought another BW200 for $600. After not really seeing one local for a long time, I was able to get 3 in two days! Right now, all I need is a front fender.

$60 plus shipping is a little more than I want to pay (DC). fattireconversions is about the same. I don't need new, so something with cracks or bad paint is fine by me. I also need 3 sets of side covers. Miraculously, I have chain guards for all three. And the tires are all in great shape. I suppose with a little bit of work and $200-300 in parts, I can get them gone for a nice profit.

Should I trade one for a '99 Honda 450 Foreman? I have an offer pending.
