Damn dude...I sincerely apologize. I had no idea she was doing bad or my attitude would have been a lot less dismissive toward your plight. I'm sure a lot of other guys would have too.

I know how bad they are in other areas as I quit them because they make me rage and be super aggressive. After nearly being arrested for assaulting someone at work, my wife pointed out that the pills made me mean so I stopped them cold. I had withdrawals like violent dreams, headaches, quick temper, heart palpitations, high blood pressure but nothing like she's having.

They prescribed them to me after open heart surgery because they wanted me to maintain calm and sedated while my ribcage and heart healed up.

IDGAF what anyone says. When I was in hell with no money, panic attacks etc etc, I went to a doc. Of course he pushes everything, thats part of the job.

The only one that fudged me up was Klonopin, worse if I drank on it. Plenty of people saw it.

You have to do it a month at a time. From 2 to 1.5 to 1 to .5 to 0 which is where I am know. No longer do I pass out or repeat myself 10 times; You can't see it if your the one doing it. People just tell you what you did.

I was forced to get off them at TF13?? By my ride home. I got lost in the woods, lost my trike. Doctor said I was headed for a seizure and or a stroke, and from what I read, he is correct. NO COLD TURKEY for those types of meds, it is a long process and ya have to stay focused; Never increase the dosage again.

An abrupt stop can kill you. Again, IDGAF what anyone says because it happened to me!!

I do take a BP pill once in the morning and if I can't sleep I wear headphones and take amnitryptolene (SP) (same crap found in turkeys)........

I just wanted to post something I hadn't mentioned before. Again, while I was prescribed Klonopin, I ran out on a Thursday and the doc was closed until Tuesday; I thought no big deal.

Sunday, I went to to separate the tenants trash and recyclables. It was a cold day, snow on everything and I was madder than HELL that the BOZOS couldn't do anything right.

20 minutes in I felt weird and my tenant Steve came outside to see me still in the driveway. I said "why do you guys do this to me!!", he offered to help but I'm stubborn. He came out again after another 15 minutes and I was in the truck. I couldn't speak right and the left side of my face wasn't working. I NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS THE DRUG!!!!!!!

He followed me to a CVS with a BP machine and my BP was 184/141, CVS said they were calling 911 but never asked about meds or diabetes etc. And stubborn Steve didn't want his truck left there so I just took off. I felt screwed up as the day went on and went to the after hours care. They said I had a mild stroke. Prescribed me 10 Klono's and in 12 hours I was AOK. I could have died, just like Trikefest. You CANNOT quit immediately but I do not seem to have a rewired brain; Maybe it's in how you taper down? It ended up taking me about 6 months to get off it completely.

I humiliated myself many times on that drug. I probably wouldn't have been as bad if I didn't drink, but I did. And no, they do not make you high, more awake, nothing. Your just doing what the doc says but not telling him you'll be having beer with the drug.

In my case, it wasn't a problem at all once I tapered off but I guess you have read otherwise. The only reason I stopped was I allowed my father to move in with me for a bit and after he told me the stories of the things I was doing or saying, I knew I had to cut the chitt. Fabiodriven tried to tell me a hundred times that this is what it was doing and I didn't listen; I should have. He kept saying he wanted to film it because I was in such denial.

At Icefest 2015 from the second the guys pulled in my driveway to pick me up, they were so pissed at me for not having my silencer on and not being packed that no excuse was gonna work (I simply ran out of time the days before as I never ice raced ot had the parts so I was running late), I got treated like chitt for not being all packed and at the end of my driveway; Although at least 5X I said "LEAVE!!" So, yeah, I got F'd up all weekend. I didn't give a hoot. And that was the end of a great friendship but it is what it is.......I take 100% responsibility. The only one that didn't rag on me was Rory, he did voice his concerns though. Thank you Rory.

It is a very dangerous drug and I'm glad I'm off it. But, I did need it when I was laid off, low on funds and had no one. Then I passed out at Market Basket when I got my balance at the ATM. I had managed to keep my house when the love of my life left me for cocaine but I couldn't stay laid off, i't great for 2 weeks, then 2 years of hell!! That's how it all started.

IDK why your girl quit or ran out abruptly, but if she tapers off I do believe she will be alright. She seems very special to you so I'm sure it's not good times right now. Don't let anything you read and assume they are 100% right. Have her slowly taper off and hopefully her head is in a good place so she doesn't need those medications again.

About 25 years ago my best friend and I had a fist fight that I'm pretty sure he started. Then we didn't speak for over two years. One day he got up the huevos to knock on my door and we've never discussed it again. I could call him up tomorrow and tell him I was in trouble and he'd be here in 48 hours or less and he knows I'd do the same for him. True friend are like that and way more reliable than family it seems.

As Tri Again is living first hand, we don't always know what the last thing we say or do to someone will be. If you truly feel you were the one to blame for the fallout then pick up the phone and say it to whomever you wronged. The worst they can do is hang up.

Wow, some really harsh words on here…but I do enjoy seeing brutal honesty from time to time.

First off, I hope things get better for the young lady this thread was originally about.

Second, the medical community as a whole is to blame for much of the prescription narcotic addiction issues today. Thankfully many of the prescribing Docs are becoming aware and changing their practice…and I'm proud to say that as of Feb. this year my Emergency Dept. has joined the others in the area in being dilaudid-free. I work in one of the few community hospitals left, so patient satisfaction is what keeps us in business. When I first got into Nursing, we used to give out narcs like candy and I would hear phrases like "a sleeping patient is a happy patient". My Wife just burned a prescription from her OB for 40 Percocets for pain after birth. We found the script in our kindling box (where most of our junk mail goes) and couldn't believe that they would think to prescribe that. After all, people have been giving birth without drug assistance for thousands of years. Every shift I see "drug-seekers" and I truly believe that their "pain" is mostly a symptom of withdrawal. There's no good solution to fix those already addicted, but at least we are starting to learn from the past and not create future addicts.

I also partially side with some on here who blame the patient. It is up to the individual to have a brain and not just take something because a Doctor says to. It is also up to the individual to use their willpower and alternative methods (Physical Therapy, Tylenol, acupuncture, etc) to tolerate pain. Benzos are a bit of a different animal, and can be more closely associated with alcohol abuse due to acting on the same brain receptors. I sometimes have a great deal of anxiety and have been offered benzos in the past, but I've found that [for me] a rigorous exercise routine and a sense of humor go a long way. I also have to set a good example for my children, so I prefer them to see Daddy effectively dealing with life rather than medicating to disassociate from it. Hopefully through leading by example I can raise my kids to be smart, strong, confident, and autonomous to avoid these issues.

My Niece is a Dr. She runs the Er 5 12's a week. 75% of the patients are there seeking a drug. A great friend of mine is/was a Doc. She had a Daughter 2 years ago, Son before Christmas. Same story, she is in family med,,a very rural clinic/hospital. She resigned yesterday,same ol,same ol. 80 % of her Pt's were there on,or for drugs. Legal or illegal. A high school friend/neighbor of mine died in a head on crash 2 miles up the road from me about 5 years ago. His Son OD'd on heroin last Wednesday. 27 yo.. I just don't get it . I hope your ladies doing better tri.
