my tecate is doing that to me right now...just took a little break to eat some Mc. Donalds and imma head back out...my air filter is horrid...and i think i got something in my carb...(dirt probrably)

but when i go out and start it it idles fine but when i get on the throttle it just bogs and dies   and that's most likely the problem...

take your carb all apart. i dont just meen take the bowl off and spray carb cleaner in there i mean take everything apart in it and clean and look at everything and make sure it is working properly you are not going to fix the problem by just spraying carb cleaner in the float bowl like most people do and think thats all thats involved in cleaning a carb. trust me i see peeps do it all the time and think they just cleaned there carb. also like said before check all the vent lines going to your gas tank if one of them is clogged up your feul pump will not be able to suck enouph gas threw to make it run right.

"I had a 230 Quadsport that would run till it got hot then it would quit. I would have to wait for it to cool down trailprotrailpro it would start. It turned out to be that I forgot to put a ring on the end of the pipe that connected to the motor head. I put it on and never had a problem again. I thought something so small and minor looking wasnt a big deal."

my exast dosent fit very well to the engine (theres a gap)!!! it blows out everywhere!! could this be the problem?? i never knew an exast pipe really mattered!!?
    thx

Nah, both of the tri-z's I have blow smoke and gunk out from the expansion chamber connection, most two strokes do. You may have a carb/fuel delivery problem, or it may very well be electrical. I had a friend with an 85 tecate, and it would run really strong for about 15 min. , then it would just quit. It would fire up if you let it cool down, but after a couple of mins, it would do the same thing. As it turns out his stator was worn out, so he got a new one from ricky stator, and it was fine until he sold it. Things to check with would be the stator, sparkplug coil, and maybe the woodruff key, I hear they sheer off from time to time,(I am not sure if your trike would run without the woodruff key or not, but for some reason I think this could be a possisbilty).

Yeah, I would say check your spark before you ride it, and note the color and arc, then after it dies, check it again and see if there are any differences. Someone else may have a better suggestion, as I am not an electronics genius, but I know a little.

when my tri z now does is it dies for 1/2 a second then jult back into life then die for another half a sec ect for about 10 times and then finally dies!! also if i pull the clutch in when it's dieing and just put the throttel on a little bit it will rev right up (it becomes very sensitive) the moment i try and put it into drive it will die!! if it starts to die i can keep it going if i keep it on quarter throttle and out of gear!!!!
    thx for all your help

not sure if you ever figred it out, i had a simillar problem dieing out on me. turned out to be my gas cap. the vent hole got blocked.what happened was the vaccuum in the tank would equal the max fuel pressure in the engine and would get no gas. when you let it sit some air gets back in and in a few mins you can ride again check it out, may be a real simple fix

yaif the plug checks out ok id look at the fuel and air supplies next.. if you can stabilize the rpm and it doesnt just konk out quickly my guess is a fuel or air prob. tri fuel pumps and systems are a notorious pain in the butt.

My 85 TRI-Z did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I cleaned the fuel pump, carb., ect. It still did it. I ended up taking it to a buddy of mine that owns a street bike shop. He replaced some loose vaccuum lines and it has ran great since. You might see if your vaccuum lines are loose fitting or weather cracked.
