1983 atc 185s rear axle fitment off other trikes or a way to fix mine

the bearing surface is worn and new bearings are very sloppy on the shaft. is there a trick or fix. and the other what other trike axles are compatible.

Actually i am currently doing the exact same thing to my 86 200x axle. I had a friend weld around the worn surfaces to build them up and tomorrow i will be turning them down to the correct diameter on the lathe. If you know of a good welder and can find a machine shop that will turn it down, probably the best way to go, assuming your axle is straight

the bearings are correct 6007-2rs it's the axle that's worn. id have it welded and turned but my quote was $200+ depending time. but i'm sure it's much cheaper buying a used one.

Might be able to measure that axle and try to find a bearing with the correct i.d. at a bearing supply shop.

this axle/hub/sprocket combo was used in the 1983 ATC 185S and 1984-1986 200s. 1981-1982 ATC 185s should work as well, but you would need the sprocket assembly from a 1981-82 as well, and possibly some other pieces for it to work. the 200s axle is a direct fit, however.

incidentally, does anyone know if a 200 or 200m axle would work? I know that would be wider than the s axle, but still.

i have a 1983 200 axle and carrier. the carrier is different i did not try to fit it. because i'm doing a resto on the 185 and i want it to be stock looking thanks for the info i thought a 200s axle and parts were the same

mine is all done, 1.5 hrs labor including welding and turning.

This is very common for axles, especially if you get mud and water in there; That's why I stay out of the water.

Try another shop. I bet in 2 hours it can be fixed....

One thing almost no one does is grease the axle journal and all splines with thick tacky open gear compound grease. It save everything and can't even be wiped off, you have to use gas but no more spline or journal wear since I've done this.

If your gonna do it, fix the seal riding surface with a ring made on a lathe.

However, finding a good used one is worth the money. I cannot see you paying more than 75$ for a nice used axle,

Are you 100% sure of this? Have you done this swap? I know the 200 and 200M is different. I was always under the impression that the 200S was different that the 83 ATC185S. Tell me more.
