    Powdercoated bolts?

I'm gonna need colored bolts for a build. I'm not really sure I like the anodized look for this build. Is there enough tolerance in the bolt/powder coating combo to coat the bolt/screw heads and still have room for the wrench to fit? Probably be allen or torx heads.

You'd have to touch them up with a brush afterwards. If you do go for it I'd suggest socket caps as the exterior would stay decent, but you'd need to make sure the underside of the bolt didn't get coated, or the exterior will peel off when you tighten them. I have a few pails of PC bolts I use to protect threads when I do frames few are perfect after use.

In saying that the right guy with right fixture may be able to give you a really nice light coating and then if you sand the Allen keys down a little smaller to allow for some PC space you may get lucky.

So maybe anodizing might be a better option? How dark could a person get a black anodize?

I have tried to powder bolts and they look great until you tighten them. El is right on the money with using Allen heads if you wanna go this route. Those will still crack but will be less noticeable. Anodizing is a great option if you are trying to color match your bolts to the motor.

If you change the bolts to aluminum then you can anodize them, which I recommend because it make the much harder/stronger.

PC is great, but I was skeptical on PC on bolts, I have a gun and two ovens and a buddy that wanted to PC every bolt, valve covers, brackets and intake on a Z28 LT1. Everything was great, except the bolts- the hex, allens and torxs chipped the PC upon install because PC is very hard and unforgiving. You can touch them up like El Camexican said, but I would not do it on a trike that gets worked on a lot.

Note- never PC a shock body or anything with exposed threads.

Silver, yellow, blue or black Zinc or Nickel is a good way to go.

Good point, cad plating, or black chrome would be the only way to do steel. Is there a black cad process?

Pro Bolt sells aluminum in every color of the rainbow, TI too, but $$$$$ dang! SS socket caps hit on the buffer are the best bang for the buck, you just have to use anti-seize on the threads going into aluminum and if you feel ANY weird resistance while threading them in, stop, back it out and if the threads are anything but perfect toss it in the trash, chase the hole with a forming tap and try a new bolt.

Aluminum bolts are cool, but best for rad. shrouds, side panels and fork guards, ETC.

Black chrome is not the same since the EPA removed cyanide from the process, unless you have the work preformed in Mexico. (No joke)

SS is cool and polishes nicely, BUT anti-seize if a must or you get galling with SS.

TI is fun and very light, but expensive and so strong it is almost brittle like glass.

Yes, you can cad plate in Black along with Clear, Gold, Olive Drab- other colors are possible if you can find a plater willing to do it.

Tip- with SS hardware run them through a die turned backwards and they will clean up nicely, buff them up with a 6" fine brass wire wheel on grinder or buffer motor.

Sounds like black cad steel socket caps are the way for you to go. So what do these bolts go on? Are you and Logram doing a build off?

If I were to promote such an event I'd tip the scale in Scooter's favor by insisting the vehicles enter and exit the stage on their own power.

My favorite part is "Tip the scale"... What does- enter and exit the stage on their own power mean??? If you seize before you hit the end of the stage you lose???

The "Don't Tread On Me" sticker alone would win the competition.

I did some more research this morning, apparently there is a black zinc coating also. More research is needed.

I put my 85 Harley Low Rider under the knife last weekend, time for a complete makeover. I will be posting a thread in the bikersville section.

No build off at this time. I have however talked him to go into business for himself. Logjam Powersports LLC (Lame Limited Comprehension). The company motto will be "We bore 'em AND score 'em, saving you the hassle!" I think it has a nice rering to it, don't you?

I've convinced him (I know that sounds impossible) to retain the legal services of Dewey, Cheatum and Howe for any legal issues that may arise. Once we get a logo figured out he'll be off and running (or not).
