What you are saying makes sense now that I think about it the power reeds let more air in so I need more gas bigger jet.

But the paper says rich and to go down 1jet size why is this? Click image for larger version.

That's interesting. How is the bike running overall? I would still increase 1 size. That plug looks a little lean.

It was running good as far as I can tell just seemed hot that's why I did the plug chop.

I put the original jets back in they looked clean and set the float height it was off now Click image for larger version.

ID:	230552it's running like lol didn't have time to do a plug chop run.

So now that the float is right I need to put the moose jets back in if that don't work I need bigger jets.

Maybe some one can tell us about the messed up reed directions? If the reeds let more air in y would they say jet down

If it idles like crap with the original jets then the pilot is likely clogged. Try putting the moose pilot in and keeping the original main. Get more main jets as Brennan suggested. One size up should work but every motor is different. Those pilots are very small and get clogged easier and more frequently.

Go here and get some genuine Keihin pilot and main jets for that carb. I would get stock and a couple sizes above and below for both the pilot and main.

I just installed a moose carb kit on my 81 250r. It had the same 83-84 250r carb as yours, aftermarket reeds, open airbox, but was completely stock everywhere else. It's ran fine with it and had a much darker plug that what your photos looked like. Just fyi.

Sounds to me that your float was causing the lean condition. I think your moose jets are fine

Ya now that I have the float set right I'll put the moose jets back in and try that.

When I read the directions with the reeds they said it would be rich and I assumed could take the air box lid off to lean it back out.

Nicker thanks for your input. you run stock jets with your air box lid off? What reeds do you have? I have boyesen power reeds.

It's raining here now when I can I'm going to but the moose jets back in and do a chop.

I've been using these guys for years. http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-main-jet-...IAAOSwnipWVd9c

I can't find "made in China" anywhere.

They seem to measure up and fit great. They react to changes.

I must have 10 or more sets for every carburetor I own......

EDIT - Found these as well, http://www.drowsports.com/koso-pwk-c...n-jets-122-145, - KOSO is what the other link gives you.

Yes, I never recommend drilling jets. The cost of new jets is well under the price of all the Advil that you will need when it doesn't run correctly after drilling.

Could the problem be that I'm mixing the gas at 32:1 and not 20:1 ?

Also I have a bit of the black goo coming from pipe don't seem like an exhaust leak no smoke or back fire just the goo.
    Could this be the problem?

I may as well take the air box lid off if I'm going to buy jets. What size will I need for that?

I would just like to buy 2 mains and one pilot if possible $7 don't sound like a lot but if I buy 10 it adds up.I may get the jets dirt crasher suggested 10 for $20 then I'll need to buy more slow jets any way.

The bike doesn't idle up even if I turn the air screw all the way out. So I need a bigger pilot right?

Not at all, matter of fact I would run 36:1

    No, this is typical.

Why are you wanting to take the airbox lid off?

If idle doesn't increase then pilot is too big.

Other answers in the box above.

It seems to run better and sound better with the lid off. Is this not a good idea? I don't plan on putting it in the mud or water.

You can run without a lid, I would run an outer wears on your filter. You will need to rejet pilot/main and re-clip needle.

Ye sir, I double that vote. NEVER drill jets unless you have a #80 set and no other options.....
