    New pellet gun

So I got a new flintlock. .20 bore, weight is about 7 lbs, Balance is perfect. Slim and points like a dream.

Shot it for the first time today.
Instead of going with .177 w patch I went with .22 pellet in this style. The steel BB aids in penetration. Not sure of weight.

I shot everything at 25yrds. I used 10g 4f. I did not shoot for accuracy today but I had no issue hitting the 2x4 at 25, first shot.
Easily but snugly thumb seats. No patch needed. The skirt catches the minimal fouling from the last shot, scraping its way down and providing a flame buffer.
    Entrance, 3/4 pressure treated ply

    Exit

    Entrance, into 2x4

Dug a hole to see how deep.
Distance through the pressure treated 2x4. Almost through

Even damage to my steel knockdown. Plenty of energy

That's badass. I always wanted a cap an ball revolver too besides a rifle.

So its a flint lock black powder rifle in .20 cal?

Where do I get one of these?

    flintlock, bp yes

this was a custom gun, built by a guy named JR Salvo. He has since passed, I bought it from estate/widow. He had coined it as the 'ultimate squirrel rifle.'
he handmade everything on it but the rock used as a flint, lock, stock and barrel.

I would imagine one could get a larger bore lined to a smaller bore. tho at times it may be too heavy depending on platform. the barrel on this is 5/8" and overall rifle stands nearly as tall as me (5'10")

keeping the weight down and making it slim makes it a pleasure to handle/shoot

I had been looking into DIY builder kits for BP flint and matchlock rifles. I was surprised they cost that much for a kit. The ones I saw were almost $500 and up. I think I might buy the barrel and make the rest myself.

I don't know your level of BP experience
If newbie I would start with a functional platform first to learn. Decide what u like then build? Ymmv

Nothing worse than loosing someone in BP due to frustration of learning curve!

I would have to respectfully disagree here. That's a black powder rifle being fired with a pellet as a projectile. That's no kids toy. Pushing a pellet through 3/4 plywood is probably harder than pushing it through a living creature.

You are probably the most passive aggressive poster on this site so I don't feel the need to take you seriously.

^ nice piece of history. I read about that one in regards to L+C. Cool piece

along the same lines as that (minimalist, good for lack of supplies etc) the entire kit to shoot this on my woods walk is a tin of pellets, a single 3x3" patch (it can be cut into small pieces for swabbing) a empty 22wmr case for measure and a pan charger (about the size of a lighter) with some 4f in it. all in all, everything you need for about 25 shots in about 1/2 the size of a deck of cards.

One of my typical bench BP target rifles alone is 30-80lbs and 4 duffel bags of equipt to go with it.

Sometimes it is nice to just travel light and enjoy the ride

    That's VERY cool Plastikosmd!

I have a BP rifle I hunt deer with. It is a TC Renegade, cap lock in 50 cal. It's considered old school compared to what people call BP muzzle loaders nowadays.

I am curious, you say you are using spent 22WMR cases for powder measure?? What is the BP type you are using?? FFFG perhaps given the small and lightweight projectile? What charge weight? I can hardly venture a guess with a BP rifle in that caliber, maybe somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15gr?? All I know is that I run between 90 and 110gr of FFG or FFG equivalent in my 50 cal depending on what projectile I am using...

Very interesting and cool piece ya got there. Must be a real sweetheart to shoot.

Be fun to run it through a chrony just to see how it compares to the higher tech air rifles and even the popular rimfires.
