Check the HPOP maybe? Did you try installing an oil pressure gauge? Maybe you're not getting enough pressure and that'makes it smoke?

On a serious note, slightly too much oil shouldn't make it smoke, if anything it'll puke some out the crankcase breather. Did you change type and viscosity of oil? That could affect it.

The intermittent part is weird. Usually a worn engine smokes pretty consistently when hot. If you want to know if your rings are leaking (blow by) put your hand over the crankcase breather and rev the engine up. If you get good gust of air coming out your rings are likely toast, At the end of the day you'll need to tear it down as these kinds of problems don't go away.

When you do pull it down have someone experienced near by. You have to find the problem, not just assume it was rings. It could also be a cracked head, or a worn valve steam/guide or seal.

to check the oil on an ATC, you unscrew the oil dip/fill screw. wipe it clean, then drop it back in w/o screwing it in, then pull out and check level.

That was a joke. I know it's hard to understand when someone is serious sometimes, maybe I'll put a disclaimer in my posts with jokes.

What color is the smoke? You mentioned replacing the bearings. Are you talking "engine" bearings? or Axle bearings?

Was it low on oil before doing the change? Do you know what type of oil was in it? Does the bike have the correct length dipstick? Filling crankcase with the correct quantity will verify dipstick. I would try a different oil before tearing into it. Non synthetic Shell rotella 15-40 has never caused a issue on any machine I've had.. And is also wet clutch approved

My XR 200 does the same thing off and on. New valve seals, rings, honed cylinder and lapped valves. Does not smoke bad at all, smokes for a few minutes then stops. Then about 20 mins later it smokes a little, then goes away.
