    1985 250r brake rebuild.

I just rebuilt the rear master cylinder and got the rear brake working ok. After seeing the level of gunk and grime in it I decided clean and flush the front master cylinder. Now my front brake doesn't work so I'll rebuild the front master cylinder. My question, with all the crud I've found in both master cylinders is it advisable to rebuild the calipers also? Secondly, both front and rear break lines look good but being 31 years young would it be a good idea to replace them? Third and last question, if I do replace them where can I get them? I did see a repro on eBay for the front. That was awhile ago but he (soilmec) doesn't have any listed now.

    Thanks for any insight,
    Bob.

Yes, I would rebuild the calipers as well...especially if one system isn't operating properly.

I just got a front line from soilmec about a week ago. He didn't show to have any in stock at the time, but I sent him a message through eBay about them. He found two on the shelf and relisted the item...I snagged one of them. Guess he sold the other.

Send him a message, he should be getting more in stock soon.

As for the rear line...I don't know how to help you. Sorry.

Does any one have a brake line reccomendation for a 1985 atc 250 r? I think I've seen braided stainless? Would you go that route?

Agree with Onetrackmind on doing the calipers after finding so much crud in your master cyls.

As to the brake lines, you shouldn't need anything uber special. When I resto-modded my second '85 R a few years back I used a Z400 rear master cylinder with braided brake line. I might be a little longer than the original 250r line, but I didn't have any issues routing it so it worked. Haven't had a single problem with it yet.

I haven't searched for universal brake lines specifically, but I'd wager that if you measure your original lines you can probably find good aftermarket braided lines in the length you need. I'll check some sources and post a link if I find something worth checking out.

This supplier offers brake line kits for the '85 250r.

    http://www.galferusa.com/brake-lines-for-atv/

If you input the year/make/model info you will see the parts available there.

Also, I would wager that if you look up a rear brake line for an '86-'87 TRX250r that those would work as well. I can check further and see if that is the case or not....
