long story short, I grew up riding trikes, 225dx, 200x, tri z, 250r's and 2 350x's. Easy enough you'd think, after years of riding, I stopped and got back into the sport, no I don't ride a trike, but had a friend who sold me a spotless 1985 350x, all decals in tact, factory rims and tires, yes mud flap, Hondaline headlight guard and brake guard, it's clean, no cracks in plastic. So, 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder, outlook isn't positive, but I manage. My friend, who I've known for oh... 30 plus years sold me the X for my 22 year old son, he's always one, and I got it for under 500, friend deal. My son has decided to NOT take care of the machine, he crashed it riding like a fool, and has managed to ruin the clutches, I was smart enough to pull the mud flap, grab bar, tool box, and switch the tires around, no damage to the plastic was done, no dents in the tank, but he decided to get in more trouble and try to sell it for costs to pay his fines... needless to say.. I now own it.
Here are my issues, it sat, so it needed a carb cleaning, and rebuild, ordered a stock complete kit from jets r us, no copies, real stuff, still won't start like it should, and run like they do. I changed the fuel petcock, I ordered 2 oem complete units and added a fuel filter, same issues, took tank off, Chip, my friend was told to put or have a tank sealant in the tank, it wasn't rusted, wish it wasn't done, but it was. I cleaned the tank with apple cider vinegar, the water and baking soda and sprayed with wd-40, I'm not gonna say it wasn't dirty, as was the carb but it's clean now as far as I can tell. Still won't run right, hard to start, sputters on the top end some and just acts up. So... before I go through a complete restoration, he tore a grip, lost a grip end, it needs a bath ect and some other fine restoration touches before I sell it and put the money into my 2 smaller childrens accounts in the event I pass, what can I do to correct these issues? Or.... is there someone located in Michigan, I live in Port Huron, so close would be a gift, who can look it over and give me the real issue, or maybe it's just tuning... or do I replace the carb with a 400ex carb, I see posts about jetting, but there all over in opinions and it's just a bone stock, low hour trike. Most of these issues were going on while he rode it, I figured from sitting, but I just can't bring myself to let him beat the mess out of it and do damage. I just want it to run right, do some detail work and get rid of it as soon as I can tell the person I sell it to it runs as it should.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
