    200S Engine Rebuild $$$

    How much is a reasonable amount to pay to have a 200S engine professionally rebuilt? I'm molling over my options with a "parts bike" that came with a 200S I bought. It is mostly complete, only missing some ignition parts and a few bolts here and there and cosmetically looks nice (plastics are near perfect) but the engine has not ran in years. There may not even be anything wrong with the engine as far as I know but the bike is completely dismantled. The frame had a lot of rust on it. It appeared someone rode it through saltwater and put it a way without rincing it off. Found sand still clinging to the underside of the fenders. I have removed the rust and have repainted. Just debating whether it would be worth fixing up or keeping it as a parts bike to scavenge from. Kinda kills me to see it just sit there. Just asking to see what everyone thinks.

    Depends on what you want to do to it. And what needs to be done to it. My 200x cost:
    Bore- 60 dollars by (John Tice)
    Wesco piston- 100 dollars (ebay)
    Versa connecting rod kit- around 75 dollars (ebay)
    Rebuild crank- 250 dollars true and welded (F.A.S.T. Racing)
    All new bearings- somewhere around 75 dollars (All Balls)(McGuire)
    Top and bottom end gasket sets- somewhere around 50 dollars (ebay)
    There is the slide I paid 75 dollars for to get some stubborn bearings out. There may be some other costs I haven't covered yet or don't remember.

    $610 for parts, $75 for tools. Alot more than I anticipated, and this is a mild build. Imagine I'll have more in it before it's complete. As far as being a 200s, I'll bet around the same price.

    Dohc. That is a watercooled engine. Might have trouble with that one? I wouldn't mind having an air cooled one. Only problem is the only ones I can find are in Australia. Not to bad of a price. Just would like to find one in the states.

    Why would the water cooled engine be a problem? It bolts in.

    Sure. Big deal, anyone could mount a radiator. They're cheap on ebay too. Hell even barnett468 found a way to get one mounted on the triple clamps of a tecate. (ahem not where i'd put it on an x but thats none of my business...

    Best offer. I'd offer him $300, if i was looking for a good engine. He clearly says he got it for free, every bit is profit to him. That's half the price, but this motor has more power, and electric start. And judging by the lack of a kicker, reverse.

    Heres an air cooled 229cc for a total of $470 shipped. I can personally attest that this particular engine model is bulletproof.

    Thanks for the input. I think I'll go ahead and give it a shot. I can probably have the thing re-assembled in no time. Maybe I'll get lucky and the engine will be fine too. If not it'll give me something to do this winter :-). Just don't want it to be a money pit especially when I have a couple fine ATC's already.
