good, bad, or indifferent, you can't let it get to ya. its the internet. i disagreed with damon plenty. but i agreed with him also. if things got bad with him, and i wasn't involved, i ignored him. no bother. if it was something i was involved in, i tried to address him directly. he was generally receptive, and reasonable to deal with. but if someone escalated, he'd escalate right with them, and things would go to shite quick. i'm not a rule maker. i haven't seen anything bad enough to receive a "lifetime" ban. its not my website though. come to think of it, do we know that the ban is official? a lifetime ban? handed down by who? For what, exactly? i'm curious.

My personal opinion is that he wanted to make Damon a feather in his cap and his approach I found very classless, I told him that. This is just my opinion. It reeked of a comic book-esque odor, although what I think some thought would be climactic was more... unnecessary.

Damon was banned for "not being helpful to new members". Damon spent a lot of time (feel free to check) in the new member's section helping troubleshoot unknown enthusiast's machines and just guiding in general. As a matter of fact he posted a thread that actually made me stop and steered me personally into the new member's section as I had not been in there for an extremely long time prior to seeing Damon's thread. But he was banned for "not being helpful to new members"... I take issue with this.

He was banned for "dogpiling", which I can agree with a bit.

He was banned for being "condescending", which if there were any concern whatsoever for condescension on this site there's one very high profile member on this site who unquestionably takes the cake on that one over any other members here, including DOHC.

He was banned for "absolute disrespect for multiple members new and old". Damon does have a tone about him and he's not looking to change that. If Damon isn't willing to examine that from an outside perspective, something I felt necessary for myself to do some time ago, then Damon should understand why he might butt heads so much. If he says he understands, then he should accept.

I feel he's taken the wrong way a huge percentage of the time. I've seen this forum project things on him that they expected of him, yet he wasn't portraying. I feel the animosity got to a point where people were seeing his words for what they expected rather than what he said. I think he thinks very differently than most, but somewhat similar to me. Different from me however, I think he has zero concern for tact.

What we've got here is... failure to communicate. Some men, you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men...

Damon did make the statement in ( I believe) his cross-country ride thread that

Or something to that effect. My opinion is that there is a clear line between self confidence and arrogance. Self confidence is a positive trait and can inspire others. Arrogance not so much. That's only my opinion and worth every penny you paid for it

I don't really have an opinion on the whys and whats of the ban, since I don't know either Damon or yeagerb.

Anyone who is banned multiple times on a forum, then is having problems on another is not a asset.
Some people just always will get and F for " does not get along with others" . No other forum that I have been to, wheter it be hunting, cars, archery forums, EVER would put up with a member having to be banned 5 times. There is no excuse for it. Call it eccentricities, abrasive, or whatever spin you want to put on it, the guy treated a lot of people like , plain and simple.

Besides, if any of you think he is gone, I guarantee you he either has other names and operates under PMs, or will be back in some other form.

About 3 years ago many forums started to see a inidation of "profesional trolls" if you will. They are tactful, they operate under the radar at the start, using PMs to undermind the well being of the forum, that usually starts with a underground upheaval against certain members or forum workers. Then they go public with a small army of "kids" that do not know they ar being misled and blinded by bullshit.

The difference between this forum and others, is bigger forums with over 300K members, instituted a army of moderators that nip it in the rear at its infancy. The forums that operate with such strictness, and efficiency enjoy 37 pages of new posts daily as a result and member logins in the 1000s daily. At my last knowledge this forum had over 20k active members and 9k facebook followers, but yet active member posting is less than 1% of those numbers on a daily basis.
That is not number that other forums see. Most forums see at least 20 to 40 % of the member list posting in a regular fashion. So that is something that should be examined and maybe find ways to promote more positive talk. I pointed that out 2 years ago, and the numbers were removed from public view, instead of my statements being examined and studied.

If any of you miss people that act like that, you sure are easy to please, enjoy being talked down to and treated like , or have a low bar of standards.
I am not gonna question his intelligence or " accomplishments" but I have seen far more people do far more for this website and sport, that do not get a tenth of the recoginition.

That being said, anybody doing any riding in the beautiful fall weather? I took my 1 yr old out around the property for her first 3 wheeler ride today and she loved it Also proud of my 3 yr old son for completing about a 6 mile loop including the green trail at the Cove last weekend…the bad part is that my legs are still sore from running behind him the whole way with the tether

This is my main backpacking buddy, Doug, on our ride in the rain, yesterday.
We've got almost 30 years of good memories back here and yesterday didn't disappoint. Just watching him get his 4-wheeler stuck a couple times. One time he said "go ahead and throw me a rope" as all I could do was laugh. The challenges were the rewards maybe goes with this thread.

The moderators are in a No win situation here. If ban a user we get chastised, if we don't we get chastised. One thing most of the moderators ( and previous moderators ) know that no matter what action is or isn't taken someone will get upset.
This is why you don't see me post much anymore.

My advise to all users: If you don't like another user then click on their profile and add then to your ignore list. Then you don't have to see what they post.
