1983 Suzuki ALT 50 Trail Buddy

Just saw this pop up on craigslist. I'm waiting for a response from the owner to see if he knows the last time it ran. if this was accross the street, it would be a no brainer, but i't an hour and a half drive.

anyone know if it's even possible to bring these things back to life (any thing is possible, but reasonably possible)?

Looks like most parts are still available except plastics and gas tank. Maybe I'll take a long lunch next week and go get it.

Yea you can get parts & bring the little buddy back to life. A member here is in the process of remaking the front fender. Im getting one for mine.

I bought a cheap chinese carb off ebay and mine fired up. That looks nice for $75.00 you cant go wrong.

Can't go wrong with $75.00 and another $75.00 in travelling expenses. You're still ahead with that one. Go get it!

Just picked it up. Couple small cracks on plastic, but all there and easy repairs. Can't wait to dig in

Well everything seems to be there and in serviceable condition, except the seat foam. Maybe a long shot, but anyone got ideas about how to re foam the pan??? I'll get some pics and details up tomorrow

After tear down, it looks like the rear tether switch is missing, the little support rod under the left plastic behind the foot peg is broke, seat foam is shot. The piston was flopping around like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

There are $50 rebuild kits on eBay, head, cylinder, piston, rings, etc. has anyone on hear used one? Looks like they fit the little 50 quads also.

Also gotta figure out what to do with the seat.

In the meantime I'll be stripping it down, cleaning, and painting everything.

Thanks, I keep sneaking out to the garage to wrench on it because the curiosity is killing me.

I just told mama that I'm playing the long game and making sure he has something to ride in 3 years. She doesn't understand....

    You stole that.

I am the member having the aftermarket fenders done. Just need to get a few more on board for the pre-order.

My seat was missing foam & vinyl like yours. I went to the fabric store and found a reminant section with discount scraps.

The seat pan has triangle teeth for holding the vinyl while you stretch it in place. They also sell different types of foam and rolls of padding.

You can also buy replacement covers on ebay, my vinyl cost me 1 or 2 dollars in the reminant section.
