Hey Dean, I asked Mike Coe this same question...but you haven't posted in a while and I figured it'd be a good one for you too.
At what point did you realise that land use and closures were major problems for all off-road riders and racers? Any particularly special place that you remember closing down never to re-open?

Dean, it's cool to read about stuff that was goin on while I was a little kid in the 80's.
One thing I wanna know is in your career, did you see ever see anything that was really extraordinary(sp) in garage craftsmanship, i.e. Yamasaki's, Kawasuki's, Yamahonda's, and not put together and hope it works type jobs, I'm talkin really nice builds that were actually fun to ride.

Dean Am Trying To Find Out What Optional Extras Were Available For My 85 250r Am Guessing That I Need To Talk To An Atc Guru Like Yourself As I Have Scouwered The Inter Net Trying To Find This Information But All I Have Come Up With Is The Following:-

Hi guys. Been away too long. I guess I'm hobby rich and time poor. Anyway, here some input on the question about former ride spots.... Some of the places we used to do photo sessions would include; Windy Point (near Palm Springs), Bermuda Dunes (near Indio), Indian Dunes (near Ventura), Palm Ave (near San Diego, highway 15), 24th Street (near National City docks), Canyon Lake (near Lake Elsinore), Corona (near the 91/15 freeway interchange), the southern end of Pismo, the northern end of Glamis (north of 78), and I'm sure many, many more. I think, Indian Dunes was used by Dirt Wheels almost weekly, since it was close to their office in Mission Hills. 3&4 Wheel Action just used the parking lot at their office....
Tim Orchard and I once rode our 250Rs from the dinosoar off the 10 freeway in Cabazon, past Palm Springs, and all the way to Indio, using dirt roads, fields, RR track access and alleys! Sure can't pull that one off today.

Okay guys, I'm back. Sorry for the long delay on the two 3Wheeling sticker orders. I finally got time to locate some more in the garage. And, you two guys got some extra goodies as well.
A Tri-Z story? I can do that.... We got one of the first Tri-Zs on the planet from Yamaha, as a test bike. So, once we did our magazine test, it was off to Bassani for an exhaust system. At the same time, we sent parts to a bunch of different shops for R&D, and we got Brett Driscoll to ride it. Now, I believe that they used to run Corona Raceway dirt oval on Thursday nights, and we wanted to get this trike done, basically, for the next issue of 3Wheeling. So, we pushed the deadlines right up to the last day, and hoped that we could get the Yamaha done for the next Corona race.
Well, it was right up to the last minute, as usual. If we had to be at the race track by 5:00 pm, we got there at 5:30 or something! Well, Ron Crandall knew what we were trying to do, so he teched us in late, and gave Brett the green light to race! Well, when we pulled that Tri-Z out of the trailer, the pits went nuts! Now, very few had ever seen one, let alone a race version. In the short time we had the Tri-Z (maybe two weeks?), we added an axle, flat-track tires and Mitchell wheels, a fork kit from Terry Cable, twist throttle, pipe, carb, air box mods, number plate and so on. It looked really cool, sitting all alone next to all those red Hondas!
Well, the main idea was to get some night shots of it on the track sideways, which we did, and Brett had a blast! All the Hondas were gunning for him, and some, just rode behind him, just to see what it would do down the straight-aways. What a cool deal. That next day, we rushed the film to the processors, had a few quick black and white prints made, wrote the story that morning, and by Friday night, it was laid out, captioned, and sent off to the printer in Illinois. It was on the newsstands a few weeks later, much to the surprise of many, including the guys from Yamaha HQ! Who had no idea that we had modified it to the moon, then, put it all back stock, and returned it! I wish I had that kind of energy today.

I only have a few 3Wheeling stickers left gang. This last bunch, I really had to dig to the bottom of the box of misc stickers. So, you can still send $1 for two, but you gotta include a stamped envelope as well! No more $5 orders please.
I really don't want to scan any old magazine layouts... Not a good idea. You guys need to find some old issues on e-bay, or at the swap meets. There's some really cool stuff in those old isssues. By the way, I am going to visit Tracey Dickson this weekend, in Charlotte, NC. TD is now working with a huge NASCAR team.

I had a chance to visit Tracey Dickson in Charlotte, North Carolina last weekend. TD is now head of the fabrication department for Wood Brothers Racing..... NASCAR! He has about 25 guys under him, and I saw no less than 50+ race cars in the shop on this weekend. With over 100,000 sq. ft. polished epoxy floors, dyno room, and equipment you just could not believe... What a huge investment!
Anyway, Dickson is still doing commericals for Honda, mostly large utility stuff in the mountains and deserts. He's too large for the smaller sport 4-wheelers, so he does a lot of 4x4 rock climbing for the spots. They do a lot of helicopter shots chasing him, which are way cool. In one shot, they used a helicopter to lift the Honda 4x4 to the edge of a massive cliff. Then, brought Tracey down by harness to the spot, so he could stand next to the Honda. The helicopter then flew around him 360 degrees. He said the prop wash was only about 4 ft away! But they pay really well!
