It's a big red 250 when I click down does not come back up and when I hold the shifter up it's supposed it stay in neutral but it stays in gear. Can anyone advise me in what direction to take? Thanks

Remove the left side motor cover and check the shift mech . Some thing is loose or broken .
Very common issue with that motor .

Let us know how it works out. I had one like that and I replaced my shift shaft assembly, only had to pull the side cover and drain oil first. If I'm not mistaken, this was more common on the 85 motors? Maybe it was the same as the 86/87 but I thought I've heard about it more on the 85's.
