fork oil?

how do i put fork oil in to my 350x forks? well i might get some from my bro but they need oil. what oil do i use? is it hard? please someone give me step by step instructions.

You have a choice. You can use straight 10w, straight 15w, 20w, or ATF (automatic transmission fluid). I am light, so I use 10w in my 200x fork. To fill, drop the fork in the clamp so that the top of the fork rests between the upper and lower clamps on your triple tree. Then re-tighten the lower clamp to hold in in place. Remove the 10mm drain bolts on the bottom of each fork (not the hex nut on the very bottom). "pump" the forks in and out to speed up draining or allow an hour or so to drain oil--Remove the top caps on each tube (17mm)--then refill. I think the 350x takes 265cc in each tube.

the forks arnt in the triple tree it is just the 2 forks. and they havent had oil in for a while is it still worth buying?

Are they straight? Do they hold oil? You'll probably need fresh seals if they've been sitting for a while. That's no problem as long as they're straight.

Why are you dropping the forks in the clamps? I've changed fork oil a lot of times and never moved them to do it. Don't forget, before you take the fork caps off, support the front end off the ground. Using ATF isn't a good idea--the fork seals won't last long. Real fork oil has additives to keep the seals soft. From experience.

On my 86 200x, I can't get the caps off without dropping the forks--the handlebars get in the way

I used to have an '86 200X and I never had that problem. Maybe your tubes are mounted higher in the clamps than they're supposed to be? I don't know; it's been a quite a few years since my 200X days.

I have my forks pulled up to the bars. Only about 1/4 inch sticks out of the clamps. It's just the way the bars bend. Everything is stock.

You know, come to think of it, I don't think I ever changed the oil in my 200X forks. I bought it new and didn't have it all that long before I got the R. I never had a Clymer manual for it and I would have had to have one to know the oil capacity of the forks. :oops:
