Ahhh, I see what you're getting at now.

I've had very little experience with them, but I will tell you a huge percentage of the bikes we see in the mountains when we're up there are KTM. Also there's no shortage of KTM support either, just as strong as the Japanese makes here. I think it kind of goes without saying that very few people complain about KTM ever. The only complaint I've heard is their abysmal support for older bikes. For me that sucks because I love old bikes. I saw a running 495 last summer that gave me the puppy dog eyes bad, it was cheap too. It was while I was selling everything so I had to turn my back on it, it was difficult. On crisp autumn evenings you can hear it ring dinging just past the horizon, I swear it.

Back then they were as rare, or even more so than Maicos and Huskys. Boutique bikes for sure. I think 1997 was the year they became mainstream in the USA. You can still get most of the stock parts from KTM going back that far, but the aftermarket didn’t fully embrace them until 2004.

With an overvalued Yen and a weak Euro the rest was history. Have you seen their cars? Harley F150 eat your heart out!

Before focusing on Honda Africa Twin I thought about the KTM1190 but to me it still felt a little "boutique".

Not horribly overpriced.....especially considering its performance.

I got to test one. “It’s a big dirt bike with lights!” Was my thought. Way sportier than the BMW, but the Honda must by more fun off-road I would think and probably very reliable.

Deere sweeper part from above. Bored, tap, cut keyway x2, bore and tap again for retaining bolt. Assemble, find out there is to much slop between pinion gear and ring gear=ugh

hit the pinion w tig and it is contaminated as heck or not aluminum, maybe zamak (sp?) stuff. Very soft and light . Could not build up gear so out comes the jb weld, I will file cut it.
I could just make a gear but time not equal to benefit.

I’m procrastinating a little bit but it’s gotta get done.Click image for larger version.

What are you doing today? Thread

Plasticos I might swing through there on the XR someday. I gotta meet you dude, lol.

I was thinking Buell work or Trikefest prep for me as well, specifically 480 work, but at the moment my health is telling me no. It's not fun being subject to your own poor health but it is what it is.
