I’ve been scrounging for some 3/16 inch plate but haven’t found any therefore decided to finally just cut down some quarter inch plate using the shaper

Roughing cutter, single pass after flattening it out. Even with roughing cutter it leaves a good finish

    Getting ready for layout

Video of shaper cutting if u haven’t seen one

Getting this tree stand ready for a 30' tree. This is a hinged tree stand that works by pulling a pin that allows it to hinge down. This was made by a local high school welding department years ago. This year they are building me a 2nd one beings that I exploded my wooden last year.
Each stand then is mounted to a plate and that plate mounted to two 3/4" 3'x3 plywood.
The dimensions are 11.5"x11.5 and a 16" height. These are able to accommodate some pretty good size trees.this years trees are 26' and 30'. These go inside of our sanctuary at the church I work.

hahah, sorry about that Mike, yes they are christmas tree stands. For about 4 years now I have been getting some pretty good sized trees. This years 30 footer is the biggest yet. We do have a bit of a challenge this year one of those being the 13.8" of snow we just got. The trees as of now are loaded with snow and ice. We also have the possibility of more snow on the way and definetley rain so that alone pushes my tree harvesting day up a few day's.
I had to line up a contractor I know with some heavy equipment with tracks on it just so we can get to the trees and then use some soft rigging to pick these off the ground after we cut them and load onto a trailer. once that is done they will need to be stored in a heated pull barn to thaw out for a day or two.
We usally don't have this much snow this early so it's never been a problem.

they are pretty compact but when connected to their metal bases and then to the 3x3 plywood base it all starts to make sense. plus these are 16" tall and have 8 bolts that go into the trunk. I also have the option if I ever needed to is to connect small cable to the base of the stand and run up the side of the trunk 10' or so, I am able to do that on all four sides. I have never had to do that before but the option is there. Heck I have to get a boom lift in just to get lights toward the the top of the tree.

Ya know Mike I can deal with the snow, it's the DaM cold and all of this DaM salt on our roads, hard as heck on vehicles. This is my gripe for the day. Why is it that you always see trucks rust out but carmakers are able to make SUV and some cars rust very little. What's up with that? My wife has a lexus 350 2007, no rust. I got rid of a Silverado 2005 tons of rust.

Trusting my nearly 1000 pound bike on an $89 Harbor Freight lift.

Actually it's worked well many times.

Went out today to get a game plan on how to get these two 26' trees out of there. expecting 1" of rain tomorrow. Will need to put inside a barn to dry out for a day before they get hauled inside my work.
Don't think old ugly is up to that task.

Fit eccentric holder then weld, pressed in crank and bearings, clamp in frame and weld.
A bit more finish work and some reinforcement and it should be set to slice for another 30 yrs.
