I told him that if he fell I’d be using that same backhoe to disappear him, so to be very careful.

Roberto, the saw operator in the bucket is 50 years old and has 10 kids with 5 different women. He fears nothing.

Funny my dad and I were just doing that exact same thing the past few weekends. He was in the loader and I was in the bucket with the saw. I'd only be able to breathe over fueled at idle diesel smoke for about 2 hours or so before I had to quit and take a break though.

Ever trim limbs off the boom of an excavator? That's some sketchy stuff! Let's just say the hoe hand the saw guy are very trusting of each other. No pics allowed on our site!

I’d want to be wearing magnetic boots for that job.

I tied a rope to the saw, shimmied up the hoe, pulled the saw up and went at it. I actually got out on the stick doing it before. Kinda stupid, I'm aware, but I actually felt far more comfortable doing it that way than when I climbed up the 40' extension ladder. I will never cut a limb while standing on a ladder rung. Work hard, work smart, ya only live once!

Oh yes, ladders and chainsaws. I have an L shaped scar behind my knee from that combination. Should have torn my leg off at the knee, but 3 feet of soft felled branches made it a soft landing that accommodated the combination of my twisted leg and ladder. Tossed the saw 15’ away on my way down. Guys that cut trees for a living don’t get paid enough.

Sure they do Nico, they just use buckets and ropes and not ladders.

Yup, it's a hard "NO" from me whenever anyone mentions ladders and chainsaws. I've seen wayyyy too many of those videos, not interested in putting myself in that position. I was visiting Massachusetts recently and helping out my old neighbor around the yard. I was using a manual pole saw on some limbs from the ground and he suggested the ladder and chainsaw. NOPE!!

I've been doing tree work for almost 30 years and I feel way more comfortable dangling from a rope at 75' than I do on a ladder at 15'. Yep- that's me.

Yeah- I wear climbing spikes or gaffs as they're often called. Impossible to do it without them- Unless you're a squirrel of course.- Great last name!
