Came into a couple free barn finds
Old economy tractor w plow and a 1974 arctic cat panther 440 vip (cat-a-matic)

Tractor runs, snowmobile has about 300 original miles on it. Both sat in a storage container for the last 40 years. only thing broken on it was the windshield as it looked like something had fallen on it in the container so I removed it. I will have to source another one. I oiled the cylinders prior to turning over. it looked like the motor had been fogged based on the oil in the cylinders already so that was good news. It pulls over easily. Next to work on the fuel system. Someone a unique machine based on the automatic transmission etc. Should be fun for around the cabin. I’m not looking for extreme performance anyway.

I’m not sure if anybody has any additional information on this machine? It seems like it was only made for one year.
There is a bit on the web. Looks like some collect due to rarity.

Shes a runner! Pulled it out of the old lady's car, smelled the varnishy gas, gave her a couple yanks, and had to go find some scrap wood to cut! I have around 25 antique saws, one gas circular saw that took me a very long time to find, and a boat load of antique mowers! Here's s couple pics of grease trap sanitary stuff. I'm the foreman, but my one guy is a damn good hoe hand, so I made him dig for me while I attempted to teach the new guy the ways of the trade. Then I look up and my operator is down in the hole socking pipe together with me. What a guy

    Awesome 90nut!

Plasti, I recall the guy down the street had one back in the day, but I had no idea it wasn’t belt driven. Suggest you look up Stoshu on here, if he doesn’t know about them I’m pretty sure he knows someone who would.

    Thk u

It seems it was AC first venture into CD ignition, hydro drive, electric start and oil injection. Crazy amount to incorporate/change

430lb tho, (1 lb per cc, lol)

From my reading it doesn’t really “spin the track” rather a gradual power to ground. It should make a great tank/grooming machine for my trails.

My recollection as a kid was that arctic cat was luxury machine compared to most of the other zillion brands out there in the 70’s. Even Massey Ferguson made a sled back then And it looked like a tractor.

Any idea who made the engine in your sled? I think Suzuki was building them for Cat for a while, but I don’t know what year it started or if it’s still the case.

Because cat is still around that makes your find even cooler. I’m guessing 95% of the names from that era are no longer in business

    Kawasaki engine
I think it’s cool that they tried to incorporate so much tech. Apparently it started in 1973 but due to delays it was not released until 1974.

I came into existence in 1973, The way I’m feeling at the moment, maybe I should’ve been delayed until 1974 until some of the kinks are worked out also

My 1977 John Deere had a Kawi engine and others as well.

Changing the topic slightly, the next-door neighbor had a sled that was basically a piece of thick plywood with an engine on it and a cloth track with metal cleats going across it. It had two skis up front and a set of handlebars, but no steering. I have no idea if it was commercially manufactured or homemade, but you basically pointed it in the direction you wanted to go and drove it until you need to stop, pick the back and up and make a correction. A lot like my YTM 200.

I'm learning that is true. It's not the power that keeps the front wheel up either.

I spend the day doing somthing I didn't want to do. Drilling out stripped threads in a frame and cutting gussests for it...why I didn't want to do it...somone else was supposed to take care of all this but failed to pay attention again. Finally decided to end the relationship as 7 months of my time was wasted waiting for the job to be completed.

Oh well feels good to say bye bye.

Blaster frame I had. I could of had a kid at work fix it up in about 3 hour for a few cases of mt dew code red.

Fast forward 7 months still not done correctly...kid got his shot.

Tomorrow I'll cut more gussets and he will put them in.

Never had the mt dew red.
Gussets, I have a 5 pound pail of these things. Every time I cut off a corner in fabrication they go into the pail. Got this truck from a machinist friend of mine who would never throw anything out. Now I have more than I know what to do with!

Not today, but the other day when the hurricane brought some rain. I washed three of the vehicles and the camper, in the rain.

It's not often that we get that much rain, without any lightening. It's much easier to wash in the rain than 100f weather and trying to keep the soap from drying and making spots. It saves water too.

I did have on shorts and a T-shirt, not naked. Didn't want to goober up the paint. I didn't need a squeegee either.
