Cool tractor and a ton of hours getting that old girl up and running. I live in the Mecca of tractor factories. Case plant was here ( made combines I believe) I.H was here until closing in the 80’s, J.D headquarters is also here.

Steam tractors are great. They take some learning to operate, there is a guy by my parents that works dirt a couple times a year with a rumley oil pull, and some sort of case steamer. Its work to run one!

    Checked the Trail Cameras

Went to check out the trail cameras we put up 8 days ago and were pleasantly surprised by the animal movement. This time around we put one up over the moose kill to see what comes around....hopefully we don't get a 100 pictures of ravens! Took our 11 month pup for the walk and she did great navigating the snow (drifted 8-10" in places) and getting through the forest litter. Check out the snowball beard on her! There's only one problem I'm having.....I'm trying to find big bucks and not moose! Guess I better find a different area. My neighbor should have a chance to get a bull moose tag next Fall so hopefully these don't get driven out of here by then.

Absolutely, about half gone already and completely hollowed out inside. Still lots there for the more energetic critters who like to chew on frozen bricks, lol.

I'm training a 18yo welder I hired last year to become my new ATV/ATC frame / swingarm builder. It took him 1 hour to try and cut to two round gussets....he did decent, I wanted him to try and think. I took the metal and showed him in 5 mins how they get done. His mind was blown, but now it's up in his mental. Over the next few days we will build a swingarm. When he completes a long task I grab him some Mt. Dew.

Good on ya! It's tough to be a mentor at times knowing what you can do in a short amount of time compared to what they can do. We all need to remember that we were all beginners at everything once! At 18, would they be in a welding apprenticeship program 1st year or something? Expand on the Mt Dew comment please, me no comprehend? is there more to it than what's there?

I hired him out of vo-tech his last year in 12th grade. I wanted a kid who could tig alum to fill the gap when another alum welder takes vacation since he has 5 or 6 weeks thats alot of time not welding alum.

Covid hit and i said screw it come in FT. He's been here ever since. I have the kid started out doing alot of side jobs for my toys. Fix this do that, make this. I can do it but if someone else can I can focus on the business side of things which I need do and then I am not here in the shop every weekend working on my crap. So after a few tries on things ge started getting the hang of things. He knows about HRE...my goal is to turn him into my own PERSONAL HRE. I simply cannot or will not run to HRE everytime i need somthing. But the odd things I will use HRE for yet. We make sure things for fire trucks and 4x4 vans....so little atv and trike parts no issues just need to do it and deal with it.

I have them trained pretty good in the laser cutting and welding smaller stuff.

After the kid did a side job I treat him to MT. Dew....it's that simple. I cant buy him a case of beer yet so I buy him a cew cartons of Mt. Dew.

Heres a 250X frame he started welding. I am going to have him at new shock tower for 450R front end I have laying around and maybe we will go a 350X rear end not sure yet.

He will also be converting some roll design foot pegs into 250x/300ex roll design pegs...not somthing that was ever made. Last time they were made into warrior. the time before that they were made into KFX700...the started as KFX450R lol.

It's ok to cut up things and turn them into other things. You won't learn until you deg right in. I have a junk 300ex swingarm I want to to cut up and lets see how it was made, then make a new longer one. If you cant you cant, but its free to try. Well not really buy I let him use junk metal to start with. I had a blaster swinger extended 1.5" last year. It helped the kid learn. I made drawings and had all parts lazer cut to it jfit together like a puzzel.

Hardest thing is trusting somone with tools to work on your stuff. They will never do it the way you do but they will learn how things need to look when finished.

Started out digging some test holes for a new building we are starting soon, then had to go dig up a forced main sewer and a water line because there was a grade conflict and you need a minimum of 18" of separation between them at the pipe size we were running, got that fixed and checked off with the board of health. Loaded up the mini and office called and said that he had a slight emergency repair. Turns out a steering wheel holder ran into a bunch of stuff at a gas station, knocked a light pole over into the power lines, wasnt really in the lines it was about 4' off and they weren't power, just comm and traffic stuff. So I loaded up the other hoe and went and took care of it. Took longer to unchain the machine than it did to straighten up the pole. Everyone was shocked that I had it done in about 8 minutes.

Built a lawn roller today using a repurposed propane tank. I was a little scared of ripping my hitch off, but after a few test runs I worked up the nerve to fill it completely with water and while I can definitely tell that the engine working a little harder, it’s definitely up to the task.

Ground was either that soft, or they augered it with a 36" bit and put a 24" tube in there and threw the loose dirt around it. Either way the guy was stoked, but I didn't give him a warranty on how long it will stay straight. Who knows, might not ever move.

A couple Santa treat trays I made on the cnc for my daughter and nephews. I added the handles to hers after the picture was taken. Santa snacked in style this year. 😎
