Got the lake rink done yesterday which is about a week later than normal due to the nice weather we've been having. I drilled a couple of holes as I went and there's about 8" of clear ice with more developing everyday. We got lucky that the lake froze fairly smooth over most of it's surface, that doesn't happen very often. Time to dust off the 70's and go for a nice rip! I'm in the process of building a red neck zamboni using my atv tub trailer with a dribble bar coming off the rear and dragging a rubberized welding blanket behind to smooth everything out. We're going to use my neighbors hot tub to supply hot water, lol.

^Actually we've been having beautiful weather here....well for us anyways. We're around 5 F each night or lower so we're gaining more each day; and with no snow we have perfect conditions to make clear ice. This lake will have 24-36" of ice on it by end of winter. Ice auger extensions are a must when fishing in the bays. Went for a wienie roast on the lake today with a neighbor who took their argo towing a fire pit. We ended up moving from where we were originally set up due to fresh heaves forming around us. I finally found a vehicle I can beat in a race with a 70!

    I drank stranger danger coffee.

A woman came from the next campsite over, whom I've never spoken to or met, except when she brought a French press of coffee over and poured me a cup.

Am I going to die? Trick question; everyone dies.

Thank goodness friendliness hasn't evaporated in the past year.

Normally were on the main part of Cold Lake to walk and skate by Christmas and the ice is off by the third week in May with fishing opening on June 1st. This year has been a blessing in terms of weather with it being around 20F each day as we should be around 5F.

That's so cool, Shep, those things are so soft and weigh nothing! What's wrong with it, I'd figure it would be going nuts once it was disturbed? But it appears to be sleeping in a box?

I dont think i harmed it when i put my foot partly in, when i reached in and felt fur i had my son get a box and put a couple socks/bird seed/paper towels and we put the open box in the wood shed. It was breathing but shaking alot, all i can think of is i was outside just before midnight and it climbed in soon after (it was a younger squirrel). Spent all night in about 25* temps.
Sadly we checked on it at the end of the day and it didnt survive.
I pretty sure i didnt put enough pressure to harm it, i "think" the cold got to it.
And when the wife got home I was the bad guy for not bringing it inside and putting it next to the fire.....to warn up.
There really neat creatures, i just hope i didnt cause his fate.

^My guess it was doomed even before you put your foot in the boot. Probably dropped by an owl and managed to hide in your boot. They don't actually hibernate and they're nocturnal so it should have been foraging if it wasn't too cold.
