I put another one of those BMX conversion kit cranks in a work trike. Same brand of trike as the last and the same crank kit, so I already knew which parts to use for the correct spacing. Wam, bam, and done.

The BMX conversion kit's are about $100. Even replacement cups, cones, and bearings for the American crank would be $30-$40 for anything resembling quality. None of the current American bottom bracket components seem to last like the old stuff did and none of them are sealed, or even so much as have a dust shield. The BMX kit uses standard type double sealed bearings. The conversion is stronger, lighter, and still only requires basic hand tools to assemble. What remains to be seen is how well the bearings hold up over time, but they're much larger than what the old square taper bottom brackets used.

Went for a ride wednesday we had a good downpour of rain on tuesday good road cleaning of all/most of the sand/salt. Wednesday temps hit a sunny 65* so the bikes came out of hibernation and after a couple hundred miles of cruising they're stored back away as we are expecting up to a foot of new snow friday.
The snow u see in the pic is i had a smoke break behind an ice skating rink, thats a zambonie (sp) pile all other snow in the area has melted.
Also after the ride i put a small rack/bag on the rear to have less stuff in my pockets while riding. I know these bikes are small but they're a fricken blast.......

Oh that's a loyal motor for sure! Drove lots of 13 letter spreaders (International) trucks with that motor mated to stick and slush transmissions and it worked well every time. I'm trying to think what cold weather assist it had, glow plugs, intake heater or plain old "Cosby Sauce" (ether) injection? Either way they we're reliable mills.

I've had a couple dump trucks with the 466 in them, reliable mills. Mine has glow plugs, also has a block heater for the real cold nights. I've got a lot of work to do by summer time. I'll probably make a build thread about it.

I needed to pull the flywheel on my moped but didn't have a flywheel puller.

I had to think like an income limited person with a moped that also has a bunch of junk laying around because he keeps too much in case he needs it in the future and is sometimes too cheap or impatient to buy a $20 tool.

I found some brass plumbing fittings and a light bulb in my grey spaghetti chamber went off.

Of course the brass pipe fitting wasn't the same thread as the flywheel, but it's brass, so I (gently) shot it in there with an impact. The fitting was a sacrificial component and didn't harm the flywheel threads.

I had some time to work on converting it to a DC system but didn't have a flywheel puller. I needed to get to the lighting coil to modify it for the conversion. This moped never had a battery, it ran entirely off of 12v AC. Turn signals, horn, all of it AC. Those parts never worked well at idle when new and and 12v AC horns and turn signal flashers in the US are hard to come by. I don't care to shop Flipkart either (Walmart in India). This moped was missing all of those parts except the AC flasher (if it even worked).

I don't know the output, but the lighting coil looks robust. It'll be nice to finally have the whole thing set up on 12v DC and be able to use US available motorycle electrical parts.

Parts for this bike are kinda hard to come by.

Back when the model was introduced in 2008…..... There were a lot of aftermarket stuff being made for it that were super cool. That has long since dried up. Sometimes you find stuff on eBay from unobtainium. There's still some stuff but you're gonna pay an arm and a leg and a shoulder for it.

I feel you. I wish I had the space and money to sock away a lot more parts for my old stuff. What was “kind of expensive” 12 years ago is all but extinct today.
