I'm vacy in Oahu for a few days and we are staying in Wai'anae. Standing in line at L&L bbq drive-in when the gentleman behind my wife and I strikes up a conversation. Little did I know I was talking to John DeSoto, the Flyin' Hawaiian!!!!!!
    Holy legendary MXer Batman!
Talked for a while and he shared some stories. Has horses now and still races. Dude looks amazing for 70!
Felt like an idiot once he left and the DW said, "you should have taken a picture with him."
    Doh!!
Oh well, it was a pleasure talking with him.

Had to recover a truck that was left behind after way too many beers last night. Might as well drive a trike to go get it. A fellow 3ww member also showed at the party. He won the long distance drive award by 2000 or so miles. Thanks for coming buddy.

If I'd known it was going to be that much fun I'd have come sooner! Good to see you grabbed a ride home, thanks for having me over!

PS. Made it to Topeka in 14 hours including the border and a mid afternoon roadside siesta.

I'll let stoshu fill in the details, but I can tell you there was an air cooled 250R there with a DG head and a Westcoast swing arm.

Just a small engagement party with 60 or 70 family and friends. Lots of snowmobiles, dirt bikes, and apparently an elephant parked on the front street.

Today I sold my 69 z28 block and 68 z28 heads to a guy that wants me to help him with his build and he asked about blowers and superchargers which got me thinking about my 67 big block camaro that had a vortec blower. I bought it around 15 years ago at a classic car show and swap meet in Pleasanton California for a whopping $12,000.00 . The seller showed up late and I was at the entrance when they pulled in and stopped them right there so other buyers wouldn't see it and drive the price up. I go there with cash to buy cars so I had it in my pocket and made them an offer and told them I had the money on me and they called the owner and let me speak with her and she accepted my offer. I resold it along with 3 other cars soon after I bought it to a dealer from Australia that was visiting the US on a car buying trip. He resold it in oz for $40,000.00 and he told me last week it was for sale again for $73,000.00.

It came with 10 second et slips from the local raceway. I floored it on the freeway once from around 35 mph and the Vortec started screaming and the tires instantly roasted and went a bit sideways and the lady in the car next to me looked like she was gonna have a stroke.

    Here's the new ad.

Well, amidst working on vehicles at work and home the wife and I got the freebie of the century. I have been wanting a small, vintage runabout boat with forward controls and a closed bow for a while since both of my brothers have each beautifully restored 14 foot aluminum runabouts from the 60's over the last couple of years.

Well, last tuesday my brother texted me a link to a CL ad for a free boat to a good home. I checked it out and after reading the ad and seeing the ad was only posted 7 hours prior, I was hoping I was first to contact the owner. It's a 1965 Crestliner Mustang, 14 feet, fiberglass with a 1965 Johnson Super Sea Horse 33hp with pull start only. (what a BEAR to pull over!!) Long story short, this boat belonged to the father of the young fellow who advertised it and it had been in the family since his grandfather bough the boat and motor new in 1965. It had always been kept in their boathouse unless they were out using it and the whole boat while not in factory mint condition is still in what I would rate as excellent condition for it's age. The seats are all original and in super condition except for only one small tear in the driver's seat. The hull has a bit of dock rash on it in places but the color is still bright and pretty shiny. The reason they were looking to give this boat away is that the engine quit on them while out on the water last summer and they could not figure out why, so they parked it and this year bought another boat. Their problem was that they needed the space in the boathouse for the new boat and needed to get rid of the little Mustang ASAP. Only problem was that it did not have a trailer, but I had that covered.

Anyway, we go down and look at this boat and the owner and his son were trying to relay to me every little flaw and issue even though there aren't very many and none are serious. I think they half expected me to not take it for some reason. So now we have to get it to a boat launch so I can load it on my trailer and take it home... They towed the Mustang over 5 miles to the nearest boat launch for me and despite my attempt to give them some cash for their fuel and time towing the boat they politely refused saying that I was doing THEM a big favor. These guys had to be the nicest people I have ever had dealings with through Craigslist.

    That all happened Sunday.

So I get home from work yesterday and my wife had been cleaning up the boat. She really likes it and is calling it "hers" and I'm OK with that. I'm glad she is so excited about it because she will not drive my bigger boat (A 1992 Four Winns Freedom 180) because she is scared she will damage it or something. Silly I know, I have been trying to get her to run the big boat for over ten years that we have had it.. Anyway, I decided to hook up one of my known functional outboard tanks to the 33 horse Johnson, primed it up and pulled..those 33hp Johnson/Evinrudes pull like the crankcase is filled with molasses! One of my brothers has a an Evinrude 33hp a couple years newer and his is just as tough. So I get it fired but it's only running on one cylinder...Dang! Checked for spark and one cylinder was dead. Popped the flywheel and found brand new looking OEM coils, points, and condensers, NICE! I cleaned and reset the points and whatya know, she came to life on both cylinders!!! I could not be happier with what I call the "freebie of the century", it's such a cool looking little boat and in such nice shape for being 52 years young. Only thing is I am on the hunt for all the electric start parts for this behemoth and get it converted ASAP. I have a hell of a time pulling it over, there is no way she will be able to and I want her to be able to hop in it and go even if I'm not with her.

We got it registered in our name and are planning to take out for the first time this weekend!

Here is the only pic I have of it so far. This is how it looked when we loaded it up at the boat launch so it's a little dirty. I looks alot nicer now since she has been cleaning it up.

I added a picture of the '65 Mustang brochure. Cool little boat.
