less psi for mudding and more technical riding.

More PSI gives you a larger diameter on your tire which gives you maybe a little more top speed, but this also gives you a smaller contact patch at the surface. So, for maximum traction, lower air pressure gives better results since it allows the tire to flatten out at the surface giving a larger contact patch.
