dont know what size of bike i want

i want a honda cr dirt bike but dont what size to get. im 6'1" about 170lbs.
i have rode the 125 before but not that much. one thing i didnt like was the lack of low end power. The bike had pipes and reeds and some other small mods. For the 250 a friend has one that is all tricked out, that thing moves. but made be if the 250 was stock it would be good till i get to know the bike and whatnot.

you will notice that in stock trim both the 125 and the 250 are week in the low end.if low end is what you want then you should buy a crf 250 or 450
and stay away from the 2 stroke.you might want to consider the new kawi
250 thumper,it is a very nice bike also.

yea the crf250 and 450 are probably the best 4strokes around, judging by your size id look into the crf250.

I agree, if you want low end power the 4 strokes are the bikes to go with, now with the hop up mod available for them they can be made into some extreme machines. The Kaw & Suz 4 stroke 250's are identical except for the plastic and rated pretty good in the magazines, Yamaha is a great machine too but if I were buying, I'd go with the Honda. But thats just my opinion. Best of Luck

i know that the 125 doesnt have much low end but was wondering if 250 is alot better at low end. i would be riding in sand and think that the 250 would be better. does the 250 have a weak low end but has to be better then the 125. i want a 2 stroke when you hit the power band your gone and that what i like.

According to the feb. 04 issue of motorcross action the rm or the yz would be the way to go.they say that the cr is very poor in the lowend.they also said "if the cr had a lowend it would be twice as good .unfortunatly,it doesn't" You should buy the book and check out their 250 2 stroke shoot out. Also check out the dec. 03 issue of dirt rider for an 8 bike shootout,It will tell ya the crf450 is the best all around bike.

if i were you i would go with the kx250 or kx500 or maybe a rm250, those are the fastest and the 250 dirtbikes i ridden had low end power because they would stand straight up all the way into 4th gear, now i know the kx500 would be a powerhouse, i plan on putting one of those in my tecate 4 soon, also check out the cr500, the 2 stroke 500's may be too much machine for you if you are inexperienced. you may want to check out some of the ktm models too, the ktm's are the only ones i haven't ridden

The thumpers are the way to go. I'm 5'7" 150lbs and have a 97 xr400 and I have no problem getting after it. It's a pain to start when I stall it. The xr's are a heavy bike 400 is 260 dry and 600 is 280 dry. Both are fast with torque.

The KTM's are nice machines, powerhouse motors too. Last 125 test I read they checked the 125 KTM to make sure it wasnt fooled or if it had a larger bore.

The YZ and Cr will have alot of great aftermarket hop-ups for it at relatively cheap compared to what you would pay for a four-stroke yz450f or crf. Its really all about personal preference, what brand do you like best? Sounds like a Honda man to me... :-D
