    1970's "Monkee" Trike

Ever see one of these? A guy I know has it, I've never seen anything like it. The logo looks like the logo for the band "The Monkees" but just says "Monkee". It's really in great shape, kind of considering picking it up..... You may not be able to see, but the paint is some serious metal flake, looks like a Gravitron or an old speed boat.

    1970's "Monkee" Trike

That's great. There were so many different brands that made that style trike in the early 70's it's hard to keep track. We had one with an 8hp on it, double reduced drive through a jackshaft, no torque converter. I remember someone who was describing their encounter with it, they'd seen one of us go by on it but didn't know we had it yet. He asked me if we were riding around on "a wheelbarrow with an engine". I thought that was hilarious and I said no, but we were out on the "thing". That's what we called it. It didn't have a brand name on it. We still have the body to this day, always planned on putting dual engines on it, but the frame is long gone. A less experienced friend piled it into the only object in an otherwise empty field and twisted the frame. It was in the snow and we had a ski on the front. TecateDan and myself maintained it, it was ours, and neither of us got to try the ski. The other kid piled it 30 seconds after he got on it. Despite how those things look, it actually did hold it's own in the woods. We joked about taking it riding but then we tried it and it went out with us more than once, lol. One time my buddy was jumping the thing really frickin high, over and over again. It was one of the most bizarre things I'd ever seen, but he got higher with every pass until he blew the front tire right off it. He was hitting the hill at full speed, wide open. No suspension on ours, front or rear. I'm not sure if anyone else ever did the kinds of things we did with that style trike, lol. We were very young, limber, and bored.

Personally, I wouldn't pay anywhere near that for it. Just my opinion, but those things would be even harder to find parts for than out "standard" three wheelers. Unless it's proven to hjave actually been owned by at least one of the Monkees, or you have a SERIOUS love affair with it, I'd let it pass.
