    Question 1983 YTM225DX shaft

Getting a clunking sound and thing the u-joint might be bad. I sure could use some tips on how to go about getting at the u joint. I guess it involves removing the swing arm. Looks like a big job. How bad is it to do and what issues might l run into? And help and encouragement would be great.

It's a big job, but not too hard to remove the swingarm. You do want to have a good jack. The atv lift type. You could do it with the help of a couple of friends and some blocks. How ever you do it, you want to have the trike on something real stable. As I recall, just remove the lower shock bolt, the brake cables, vent line, and the pivot bolts. It's kind of a trick to get the driveline splines lined back up with the output shaft, but I did it by myself. Also don't forget to loosen the clamp that holds the swingarm boot to the engine. Now's the time to replace the boot if it's bad.
