The top nut and washer come off then you gotta take the tip triple off and they should slide off. Keep a pan under the steering stem because the bearings will fall out. Mine were stuck so I used vice grips on each side to pinch the triple up above the shocks

Yes, you'll need a spanner wrench to remove the nut that is below the top triple-clamp. That's the proper way to do it, but you can probably improvise with other tools.Originally Posted by Quagland

I always had trouble finding a spanner wrench that was small enough (even the adjustable ones) to fit that stem nut, so I made my own. Found it in the plumbing section of Home Depot and made a couple of adjustments with a grinder. It works perfectly and was less than $10.
