Rubber Fender material (Mud flaps!)
Was reading a thread about subject material, went to post a suggestion ... not yet qualified to do so.
Well, here's the info, for what its worth:
I have been cutting 1/8 to 3/16 thick harvester belts, or, round bailer belts. I'm certain a local farm implement dealer will give you
(free) all the used belting you want to haul away. They tear across in use, and they do not want to rejoin them. Widths from 5" to 9", lengths around 8 to 25 feet.
I seek the thinnest, single reinforcing ply they have laying around. Some will be shredded in places, perhaps delaminated in others, but one belt will provide material
for a lot of trikes! The limited width makes you get creative cutting L-shaped Yamaha YTM fender extensions!
Then ,,,, last week, I happened upon a neighbor, stripping his deck boat/party barge to the deck (removing all this semi-stiff rubber mat material) which he was happy
to have me haul off! There was no adhesive residue on this, as it was bonded only at the perimeter and it didn't smell fishy. According to him, big marine dealers
(not big boat, a lot of normal boats in a huge shop), keep quite a selection of colors, thicknesses, stiffness, etc, in huge rolls like carpet ,,,, which they also have!
His junk rubber spent 18 years in an outdoor, lakeside environment, and the rubber was still remarkably pliable. It had a pattern on one side, smooth on the reverse.
I've noted similar material on elevator floors, stairs, etc. It was consistently 1/8" thick, yes, and it was black, no fading.
Next week, I shall check out several boat dealers in the DFW area on my way back from the airport!
Good luck

I was going to look at rear car mats, made out of rubber, they are usually around 12" wide by 9-10" high, may work out .
