    New problem need advice

Ok so I went riding my 85 200x today, rode it for about an hour or so. Once I came home I had white smoke coming from the exhaust, I changed the spark plug and waited for the engine to fully cool and then changed the oil. I started it up and it started blowing white smoke from the exhaust. I hit the throttle a little and the smoke came more and more....Any idea's what's going on here?

Do you have a compression tester?

I would purchase one and take a static compression reading. Compare that to oem specs to see if it’s your rings or valve seals.

I had a mechanic look at it last night and said exactly that...it's either the piston rings or valve seals. He is just going to replace both.

Well the mechanic finally tore down the engine and it happened not to be the piston rings or valves, it was a blown head gasket. It still had the honda stock piston in it. And the piston actually said Honda on the bottom.....However look at what 33 years of riding will do to a piston this is all carbon build up. Click image for larger version.

That piston has been burning oil for some time thus the massive carbon build up. Those rings are guandi.

So just a head gasket? That's good news! I dunno if you've already got it back together but it wouldn't hurt to run a hone through the barrel real quick before assembly.

He is going to clean the carbon off of the piston and clean up the head a little, he is also going to hone the barrel as well, I am still waiting on the head gasket kit to come in, it won't arrive until Tuesday. So I won't be riding it anytime this weekend sadly.
