    Post 200x Upgrades

    What upgrades to my 200x will benefit me the most? My 200x is pretty much all stock. I would want to boost speed and performance.

    Depends on the terrain but for flat track style, 18 x 11 x 8 tires, 8" wheels, wider axle or spacers, sprockets, jetting for k&n air filter and aftermarket exhaust (it's gonna be much louder). Woods would be tires, intake and exhaust although spark arrestors are usually required. Are you wanting top end speed or turn to turn speed? Lots of answers to this question.

    ^^^ Nailed it. There are many answers to this question. With most things, it comes down to how much money you are willing to spend to get the performance you want.

    ENGINE PERFORMANCE/POWER
    A K&N or UNI type air filter, performance exhaust, and appropriate jetting will be the cheapest route. I am currently in the process of acquiring/installing a Wiseco 10.25:1 high compression piston, a Megacycle camshaft, and XR200 carburetor as well. A port and valve job is also going to improve the performance. There are plenty of other routes to go, including stroking the engine but that's not practical for the average weekend warrior.

    GEARING/SPEED
    All of that just increases power. If you want to increase speed, you need to change the gearing. Swapping out the front sprocket will be the easiest thing to do. I myself have gone from the stock 12 tooth front sprocket to a 13 tooth when I still had the stock setup on my 200X (with stock 40 tooth rear sprocket). Theoretically, this will provide an 8.3% increase in speed and an 8.3% decrease in torque (Google "sprocket calculator" and play around with different sizes).

    I noticed that this change made first gear much longer and usable. In fifth gear, I could tell I was running out of power and needed more to take advantage of the longer gearing. FWIW, I recommend Sunstar sprockets. Some have good success with the JT sprockets but I bought one that was machined wrong and was not centered with the counter-shaft... it made a lot of racket.

    HANDLING
    No doubt, making the rear end wider is gonna help out a ton. Wheel spacers are a cheap way to accomplish this but generally frowned upon because you're just asking to bend an axle. The Honda 250EX, 300EX, 400EX etc. wheel hubs add 1.5" to the overall width in the rear (.75" per side). The stock wheels/rims from the aforementioned Honda four wheelers are also offset 3" in / 5" out. Since the stock 200X wheels are centered, the offset wheels give you a 2" overall width increase (1" per side). With the hubs and wheels, you can expect 3.5" of rear extension. Or, if you have the money, find an extended axle for $400+. They can be found for cheaper but I haven't seen any cheaper than that lately.

    TLDR
    Your best bet is to get your hands on a good filter, performance exhaust, some jets, a 13T front sprocket, and the wheel hubs. These are relatively cheap and will pair well with other performance modifications if you ever decide you want more performance.

    Performance camshaft would be your biggest single item performance boost. Megacycles or WebCam can hook you up on that.

    Might consider increased carb size but not too much

    The pipe offerings for 200X are mostly just louder without much increase in performance especially for a DG or a Cobra. I noticed a difference in low end with my Supertrapp but haven't had much luck with a Cobra or DG. There are other used pipes available that might work better than those two but it's outside of my personal experience so I can't comment on that.

    Web cam worth it? Just haven't had any experiences with aftermarket cams. is there one that i can get and not have to upgrade the springs and rockers?

    I ran Megacycles with no problems. I have no Web experience except to say I've never heard a complaint from anyone about their Web Camshaft.

    Both companies make a few grinds that don't require modded springs or machining any clearances. The lower profile grinds that don't require heavy duty springs will probably not need rocker modifications either. My Megacycles was one grind below full race and they told me my rockers would NOT need a hardweld for that particular cam even though I ordered their heavy duty valve springs. It's got about 200 hrs on it now and very little wear on the rockers or cam both.

    Web is more affordable I think, if that's an issue

    I know that a ported cylinder head and 12:1 compression made mine feel way stronger than a stock 200X. I don't have much run time on either bike so I can't say for certainty whether it was the adrenaline of riding my bike, or based on fact.
