    Honda 200X questions

I"m trying to find out some info on Honda 200X.

1). Is there much of a difference between 1983 model year, compared to a 1984, and 1985 model year? Pro/cons of any (reason I ask, I'm looking at a 83 model year, but wondering if there is anything to worry about on a '83, versus a 84 or 85 model year.....I'm familiar with the Honda XR dirt bike series, and there were big differences on these...just wondering if the same is true on the 3 wheelers).

2). Anything to keep on eye on for these models? any known failure items to be concerned wiht? Parts availability?

    any and all info appreciated.

    Thanks.

The kick starter internal gears are real weak on the 83 model .
The CDI was also changed in 84/85 because the 83 would backfire and kick back while kick starting / breaking gears and harder to start .
The tubular swingarm on the 83 model tend to crack .

I have an 83 200X. I never had a problem with kickback. In fact, it is one of my easiest machines to start. It does have a tubular swingarm, but I've never had a problem with cracks. My kicker works fine too, but I have heard of problems with the internal gears wearing out. If you find a good deal on an 83, I wouldn't avoid getting it just because it is an 83.

You probably don’t have the original CDI box then or it was changed during the factory recall .
I do agree if it’s a clean machine I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it .

The '83 was more mass produced compaired to the rest of the 200X. Good supply of parts are still available.

    Things to look for:
    clean tank
brakes both work. Known for master cylinders siezed up
    burns oil. Smokes
    rear bearings. Play

Make sure it shifts through all of the gears nicely and ride it around shifting from 2-3-4-3-2-3 etc. They are known to have issues with 3rd gear.
